An important aspect the 2015 APPT will be the initiation of the GPI Asia-Pacific Rankings.
This system will accord players, points as per the Global Formula taken from the Global Poker Index, which ranks the performance of live tournament players.
Starting Season 9, this ranking will apply for all PokerStars events in the APPT, listed at www.appt.com. This list will not include restricted-entry and promotional events, in order to provide a fair scope for all players involved.
A specially created Trophy will await the player, who ranks the highest at the end of the tournament.
Elaborating on the GPI rankings, Alex Dreyfus, GPI President, stated, “We are excited that APPT is going to use the Global Poker Index ranking system. It will help to increase our reach and brand awareness in Asia. Working with the largest Asian poker initiative will definitively drive new opportunities for us and will help to build a worldwide industry standard. It will support our vision of promoting poker like a sport, globally.”
Danny McDonagh, APPT President added that, “It’s the ideal time to integrate a ranking system for all of the Asia Pacific. The key has always been to have a balance in buy-ins, player fields, prize money, and number of events between Asia and Australia-New Zealand. The tour has that balance now and it’s another feature to add to the ultimate player experience.”
