In the midst of the ongoing Asian Poker Tour (APT) Korea Championships 2018, an announcement was made by the APT releasing the details of its 2019 season schedule.

Following the success of the 2018 APT Kickoff Vietnam, the Southeast Asian country will once again host the opening festival in Ho Chi Minh City. A total of 11 events are scheduled to take place, but only eight have been confirmed till now, with the possibility of the other events to be confirmed in the coming months.

In a released statement, the Executive Tournament Director and APT General Manager Lloyd Fontillas disclosed the reason behind the early announcement of the 2019 schedule, “We are releasing our event dates so players can start planning ahead of time and other tournament organizers can start setting their dates to avoid unnecessary overlaps. Most organisers keep to the informal gentleman’s agreement that in Asia poker events should not clash thereby giving players at all levels the opportunity to play the maximum number of poker tournaments which can only be good for the continued growth of the sport”.

He also added, “Players can expect an all-new destination to be added to our stops while events to be announced are with our partners and are just waiting for the concerned parties to give the go ahead”.

This decision was possibly prompted by the clashing of the APT Korea Championships with the freshly concluded APPT Manila festival this year. The incident had caused many players to express their dissatisfaction that such an overlap had been allowed to happen, as it benefits neither the players nor the festivals themselves.

However, with the APT Philippines Championships, APT Vietnam Da Nang Championship and APT Finale Macau Championships yet to begin, the Asian poker circuit has a lot more action to witness before the year ends.
