Asia’s premier tournament brand Asian Poker Tour (APT), kept poker players busy in 2022 with a well-rounded schedule of 12 live tournament stops. As the year draws to a close, the season-finale of APT’s 2022 calendar – the APT Da Nang Vietnam VSOP 2022 is up and running. The 36-event series began its 11-day run today, i.e., on Thursday, December 8, at the Risemount Premier Resort in Da Nang, Vietnam.
Like most live stops in Vietnam, we expect sizable Indian participation in the series. Some well-known players confirmed to attend include India`s poker couple Aditya Agarwal & Shuchi Chamaria, Akshay Kapoor, Sriharsha Doddapaneni, and WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant.
The APT stop in Da Nang is the brand`s third outing in Vietnam this year. Headlining the opening day proceedings is the VN₫ 2 Billion GTD Event 1: Mystery Bounty, which features a VN₫ 9.90 Million buy-in. The event will run two starting flights from Day 2, scheduled on December 9.
The festival`s biggest draw, the VN₫ 33 Million (~$1,350) buy-in VN₫ 10 Billion GTD Main Event, will run three opening flights starting on December 10. Late registrations in the showstopper tournament will remain open for the first two levels on Day 2 (December 13), with the eight finalists returning to compete for the Main Event title on December 15.
Another featured attraction is the VN₫ 6 Billion GTD High Roller which features two starting flights starting on December 14, leading up to Day 2 on December 16.
The APT has partnered with the Vietnam National Television and Vietnam Football Media (VFM), which will stream the final table action in Vietnamese. While the brand had unveiled the dates for the series late last month, it came out with a tweet sharing, once more, the schedule details on December 7.
#APTDaNang2022 starts tomorrow, as will the streams! On Sports [@Onsportchannel on FB] is our official stream partner and is co-produced by Vietnam National Television and Vietnam Football Media (VFM), and will stream all our actions in Vietnamese. https://t.co/jnybSdjcvl pic.twitter.com/P1LCY7hbTg

Setting the tone for a grand finale to APT’s busy 2022 calendar, APT President Neil Johnson said, “It’s going to be an exciting finish to the calendar year.” He added, “We’ve taken a lot of player feedback and expanded the Manila and Da Nang schedules for a very robust offering.”

Sizable Indian Attendance Expected!
Vietnam is a much-preferred live poker destination for Indian players and has witnessed a lot of participation from the country. The three previous APT stops in the country this year, APT Vietnam Hanoi (June 7 – 19), APT Summer Festival Hanoi VSOP (July 12 – 24), and APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh (August 8 – 17), were all well attended by Indian players who made several top finishes.
Team India bagged three trophies at the APT Vietnam Hanoi 2022, headlined by Shardul Parthasarathi’s Main Event victory, Alok Birewar’s winning Event #13: NLHE 2, and Zarvan Tumboli shipping Event #17: Deep Stack Hyper Turbo.
India posted a hugely successful outing at the inaugural APT Summer Festival Hanoi, grabbing an impressive five titles and posting multiple FT finishes. The title winners included Zarvan Tumboli (Won Event #5: PLO), Jude Praveen Kumar (Won Event #8: Super Deep Stack Turbo), Sajal Gupta (Won Event #10: High Rollers Single Day), Amit Kaushik (Won Event #18: Deep Stack Hyper Turbo), and Kamal Kumar Sogani (Won Event #22: PLO).
Ankit Jajodia was another standout winner and finished third in the Main Event for VN₫ 920.59 Million.
A group of three Indians cruised into the Championships Event final table, with Deepak Bothra running the deepest. He finished third for a career-best VN₫ 1,065,210,000. Young Gun Shardul Parthasarathi placed fourth for VN₫ 769.38 Million, while Zarvan Tumboli came eighth for VN₫ 287.31 Million.
Ticking off India’s scorecard at the APT Vietnam Ho Chi Minh in August was Manoj Ramakrishna, who posted a fifth-place finish in the Warm-Up Event for VN₫ 134 Million.
Team India was in the reckoning again, in the Main Event, with Amit Kaushik making it to the final table. The Kurukshetra-based player fell out in third place, netting a career-best VN₫ 1,691,700,000.
Sumit Sapra was another Indian who made a final table appearance towards the end. The Asian circuit regular finished fifth in Event #18: Monster Stack for VN₫ 123.01 Million.
Considering India’s impressive tally in Vietnam and the fact that many of the old hands have reached the venue, we can say the up-and-running series has all the makings of closing Team India’s live tournament innings for 2022 with a bang!
