The third edition of Baadshah Gaming Live Tournament (BLT3) series is off to a flying start and yet again playing host to the extravaganza is the Baadshah Gaming Live Poker Room onboard the floating Casino Pride in Goa.

The five-day long series opened with the ₹15K Bounty event which pulled in an encouraging field of 65 entries that created a prize pool of ₹6,50,000. The tournament Director Georgie Thomas announced around midnight that only the top 7 spots would receive payouts. As the race to finish in the money intensified, 25 year old Young Gun Ashish Munot (cover image) emerged as the winner at the first event of this series.

Chennai-based Munot is one of few players in the country who got the opportunity to get mentored by none other than Aditya ‘intervention’ Agarwal and the results speak for themselves. He entered the final table with the shortest stack and showed incredible skill, grit and determination to outshine players like WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant, Jaydeep Dawer, Anant Malik, Myron Pereira and Gaurav Kalra, to claim the trophy and top prize of ₹2.25 Lakhs.

As expected, the poker room was bustling with notables including the First Lady of Indian poker Shuchi Chamaria, Tathagata Sengupta, Baadshah Gaming co-founder Madhav ‘Maddy’ Gupta, Rajnish Kumar, Young Gun Arjanveer Chadha, Meherzad Munsaf, Rakesh Sharma Amit Ajwani, and Kanishk Bansal, among others, even though many tournament regulars are presently in Vietnam for the upcoming APT stop.

The tournament kicked off around 30 mins late when a major change in the schedule was announced with the₹75K Highroller getting pushed to today where the action is expected to kick off at 3:00 pm.

After eight hours of play, Gaurav Sood was eliminated on the money bubble when he shoved for 40,000 with card 3card 3 and Myron Pereira called with card 1card 3. Pereira hit a king on the flop eliminating Sood in eighth place to bring play down to the official seven-handed final table!

Final Table Recap

In a surprising turn of events, the chip leader Navin Kumar became the first casualty on the final table. After losing a sizeable pot early on the final table, Dawer opened, and got two callers in Kumar and Myron Periera. On the card 2card 1card 3 flop, Dawer continued with a raise and Kumar called, while Periera folded. On the card 3 turn, Dawer shoved with pocket tens for a full house and Kumar called with pocket queens and was in deep trouble. Only a queen could have saved Kumar but the river card 3 completed the board and Kumar exited in seventh place.

Kumar was followed to the rail by WSOP bracelet winner Aditya Sushant who exited in eighth place when his shove with pocket eights got looked up by Anant Malik’s pair of kings. The board blanked out and Malik scooped the pot.

Myron Pereira lost a majority of his stack and had shoved all-in thrice in the span of a few hands. He ultimately received a call from Gaurav Kalra who held pocket tens against Pereira’s king-jack. The board missed both players and Kalra doubled through Pereira, who was left with crumbs. A couple of hands later, Pereira once again went head-to-head with Kalra and lost the pot along with his tournament life.

Down to four-handed play, Jaydeep Dawer jammed with card 3card 3 and Munot called with pocket rockets. The board fanned out card 2card 3card 3card 3card 1 and with no help from the board, Dawer bowed out in fourth place.

Play continued for another level before Munot moved all-in with card 3card 3 and short-stacked Anant Malik called with ace-king. The flop opened with three hearts, giving a queen-high flush to Munot. Malik too had outs to the nut flush but the turn and river were not in his favour resulting in his third-place finish.

Ashish Munot started the heads-up play with an enormous chip lead over Gaurav Kalra and had almost 85% of the chips in play when the last hand of the event was dealt. On the final hand, both players had shoved all-in preflop. While Kalra held card 2card 1:, Munot tabled pocket eights. The board ran card 3card 1card 2card 3card 2 and Munot’s pair of eights were strong enough to win him the pot, the trophy and first-place prize money of ₹2,25,000, while Kalra was relegated to the runner-up title for ₹1,50,000.
