Asian Poker Tour (APT) ’s final frontier for 2022 and its debut foray in Vietnam’s Da Nang region – APT Da Nang Vietnam VSOP 2022 – has crowned its first batch of winners. The series is being hosted at the Risemount Premier Resort in Da Nang, Vietnam, and guarantees a hefty VN₫ 20 Billion across 36 events.

A strong battalion of Indians is attending the series, and in the first two days, we’ve already seen our Indian challengers making several deep runs, including two final-table finishes. The ‘desi’ pro to pick up the deepest run in the series so far is Shuchi Chamaria! The Bengaluru resident had carried the shortest stock to the eight-handed final table in Event #4: Head Hunter but fought hard to get a few pay jumps, finishing fifth for VN₫ 46.16 Million. Not only was this Chamaria’s first cash of the series, but also her first score in the Asian circuit. Her career-best live score remains her fourth-place finish in the 2018 Baadshah Gaming ₹35K Main Event.

The WSOP bracelet winner from Chennai, Aditya Sushant, also cashed the Head Hunter, finishing 14th for VN₫ 13.34 Million. Japan’s Masaya Nakagawa won the title for VN₫ 184.38 Million.

So far, the biggest winner in the series is the Event 1: Mystery Bounty champion, Singapore’s Benjamin Sai, who won the series opener for VN₫ 334.66 Million. Sai also drew the Mystery Bounty four times, collecting VN₫27.20 Million by way of bounties. Alongside the bounties, he pocketed VN₫ 361.86 Million in first-place prize money.

While several Indians were seen in action in the two-day event, only two crossed the money line. Paawan Bansal, eyeing a second APT title, final table bubbled the Mystery Bounty, finishing ninth for VN₫ 34.86 Million. Aditya Sarin (21st for VN₫ 14.01 Million) was the other Indian player crossing the money line.

Singapore’s Keng Yong Tan (Won Event #6: Deep Stack Hyper Turbo for VN₫ 94.88 Million) and Vietnam’s Dinh Van Tien (Won Event #3: Deep Stack Hyper Turbo for VN₫ 63.66 Million) championed the other side events.

Shane Hodges was the first Indian player to make an FT finish in the series and locked in VN₫ 11.86 Million for his eighth place finish in the Deep Stack Hyper Turbo. Priyank Gupta finished 14th for VN₫ 6.87 Million.

Singapore’s Benjamin Sai Champions Event 1: Mystery Bounty For VN₫ 334.66 Million; India’s Paawan Bansal & Aditya Sarin Make ITM Finishes

The VN₫ 9.90 Million buy-in VN₫ 2 Billion GTD Event 1: Mystery Bounty ran two starting flights on December 8, drawing a field of 241 entries (Day 1A – 141, Day 1B – 100). Day 2 of the event took off at noon (local time) on December 9, with 65 qualifiers (Day 1A – 36, Day 1B – 29) taking their seats.

Day 1A chip leader, Vietnam’s Van Tien Dinh (286,000), started Day 2 as the overall chip leader, with Day 1B chip leader India’s Abhishek Paul (228,000) and the Netherland’s Joris Michl (209,500) who advanced from Day 1A headlining the Day 2 starters.

A total of eight Indians (Day 1A – 6, Day 1B – 2) had qualified through to Day 2. Despite the strong show, only two desi pros sailed past the money bubble.

Paawan Bansal came agonizingly close to making the final table but busted in ninth place on the final table bubble. He pocketed VN₫ 34.86 Million for his efforts and drew a Mystery Bounty of VN₫ 8.40 Million.

Sriharsha Doddapaneni, Anshul Rajput, Aditya Sushant, Akshay Kapoor, Abhishek Paul, and Aritra Dutta had made it to Day 2 but fell out empty-handed.

Recapping India’s run in the event, eight Indians entered Day 1A, which began at noon (local time) on December 8. While Bansal bagged the ninth-biggest stack from the flight, Sriharsha Doddapaneni, Anshul Rajput, Aditya Saran, Aditya Sushant, and Akshay Kapoor survived the day’s onslaught. One of the most experienced Indian pros in the group, Aditya Agarwal, fell out through the day’s proceedings. Anant Bhandari was another Indian who failed to advance on Day 1A.

The event generated a VN₫ 2,103 Billion prize pool, including a bounty prize pool of VN₫ 723 Million. The top 25 spots were paid with a min-cash worth VN₫ 11.68 Million.

In the end, Singapore’s Benjamin Sai emerged as the victor, lifting the APT trophy and netting the VN₫ 334.66 Million top prize. Joris Michl came in second for VN₫ 223.12 Million.
