The 2019 British Poker Open (BPO) crowned another champion on Sunday, and this time it was Spain’s Sergi Reixach (cover image) who walked away with the title. Reixach dominated a field of 22 entries to win the sixth event of the prestigious stop for £253,000.

Day 2 of the event saw the final five players return to play on the final table and what unfolded was one of the most topsy-turvy final days seen at the series yet. The bubble round itself lasted more than three hours before reigning Poker Masters champion Ali Imsirovic lost his tournament life to Reixach and left empty-handed. Reixach took full advantage of the swings to spin himself into contention. He eventually fought off 2019 Triton Poker High Roller Series Jeju Main Event winner Timothy Adams heads-up to stake claim to the title.

Reixach was humble about his incredible run. “It’s been a tough final day. The bubble lasted four hours or something – it’s probably one of the longest bubbles I ever played. After the bubble burst, I was lucky in a three-way all-in with pocket nines and heads up was just a cooler… and I win!”

When the final table was drawn, Elio Fox sat at the top of the counts with 871,000 and was trailed by Imsirovic (771,000), with Reixach (571,000) rounding out the top three stacks.

Final Table Chip Counts

  1. Elio Fox – 871,000
  2. Ali Imsirovic – 771,000
  3. Sergi Reixach – 571,000
  4. Timothy Adams – 323,000
  5. Michael Zhang – 214,000

Final Table Recap

It took more than three hours for the bubble to burst. Bosnia’s Ali Imsirovic was the unlucky player who had ran out of chips to leave empty-handed. Imsirovic had bet 200,000 with and Reixach moved all-in with . Imsirovic made the call, and the cards were tabled. The flop of was bad for Imsirovic who was looking for a king or jack to survive. The turn and the rive were neither, and Imsirovic was eliminated in fifth place.

Just about 20 minutes later, Reixach dispatched Michael Zhang and Elio Fox to the rail in a single hand. The hand saw Zhang move all-in from the button with . Fox called from the small blind with and Reixach re-shoved all-in from the big blind with . Fox called for his tournament life, and a flop of landed giving Fox a nut flush draw. But the turn changed nothing, and the river saw Reixach’s pocket nines win him the pot, sending Zhang out in fourth place and Fox in third place.

Timothy Adams then went heads-up against Reixach with a meager 290,000 as compared to the latter’s 2.460 Million, so it was hardly surprising when Reixach took it down in a single hand. Adams moved all-in for 250,000 with and was snap-called by Reixach who showed . The flop kept Reixach in the lead and after the fell on the turn, Adams needed an ace to come on the river. It never did, as the completed the board and just like that Reixach was pronounced the champion!
