The R$7,000 ($1,850 USD) High Roller at the 2018 Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) witnessed surprise participation from the star attraction of the Brazilian National Football Team – Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior aka Neymar Jr. (cover image).
The event had pooled in 288 entrants including Neymar and five of his friends. Following 12 hours of gruelling action, the field was reduced to 19 survivors with Neymar placed fourth in chips with a stack of 1.391 Million. He eventually managed to reach the final table and was sixth in chips with 1,930,000 in his bag.
However, the forward from Paris Saint-Germain had a wedding to attend on Tuesday night where he was the best man! In a great act of fair play, the other eight finalists unanimously decided to extend the High Roller by a day so that the football star could attend the wedding and fulfil his best man duties. The BSOP too decided to bigheartedly cover all the extra expenses of the finalists for extending their stay, including hotel rooms and flight changes.
