Charlie Carrel Wins EPT11 Grand Final €25K High Roller for €1,114,000

The 2015 PokerStars and Monte-Carlo® Casino EPT Grand €25,000 High Roller drew 215 players, creating a prize pool of €5,267,500. The single re-entry tournament was won by 21-year-old Charlie Carrel (cover image) for a topper’s purse of €1.114 million.

Before this win, Carrel had won the 2014 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour Grand Final for £108,625 beating 212 entries and finished fifth in the EPT Malta €10,000 High Roller for €183,800.

Carrel admitted that he had sold pieces of his win and smiled as he said, “I’m extremely excited to give a chunk of this away to my friends.”

I’ve been living out of a suitcase for five months now. I think it’s going to be what town to go to for a celebration with my friends.”

After this, Carrel is looking forward to participate in the $111,111 One Drop event at 2015 WSOP.

 

Final Day Recap

The final day of the High Roller found 12 players eager to battle for the title. However, within just one hand, Yingui Li was eliminated, when his aces were cracked by amateur businessperson Russian Andrey Andreev and he was out at 12th place.

Dominik Nitsche, WSOP Main Event winner Martin Jacobson and Pablo Melogno all followed in quick succession at 11th, 10th and 9th places respectively, leaving behind the official final table.

A few hours later, Dan Smith, who had been ill and joined the play, after a visit to the hospital was felled by ultimate winner Carrel and exited at 9th place for €137,400. Smith found his , beaten by Carrel’s , when the board gave forth .

Jeremy Ausmus and Dario Sammartino were the next to hit the rails at 7th and 6th places, with Max Altergott retiring at 5th place.

Start-of-the-day chip leader Andrey Andreev lasted till 4th place and Day 1 chip leader Steve O’Dwyer made it till the 3rd.

Heads up play began between Carrel and France’s Imad Derwiche, with the former having a significant lead.

The final hand saw Derwiche with and Carrel holding . The board opened and Carrel was the champion, collecting €1,114,000 and the title.
