Even as the Goa BJP government was preparing the process to appoint a Gaming Commissioner, with rules to prohibit locals from entering casino gaming areas, the political mudslinging over Casinos continues.

According to ndtv.com, the issue blew up again, after Manohar Parrikar, Goa’s ex-chief minister and current Defense minister commented that members of the United Progressive Alliance regime were all guilty of having dipped their hands in the flowing Ganga of corruption in the multi-million dollar AgustaWestland chopper scam.

The comment immediately gave rise to a blowback from the Goa Congress party, which used the statement to allege that the BJP and Parrikar were guilty of a similar crime, and had washed their hands in the River Mandovi.

Durgadas Kamat, Congress secretary, Goa pointed out that the BJP had promised to remove the casinos from the River Mandovi, but after winning the election, Parrikar as CM had conveniently overlooked the issue.

It is quite visible who has washed their hands in the Mandovi river,” Kamat commented.

He further said, “It was BJP and Parrikar himself, who promised the citizens of Goa that the moment BJP comes to power offshore casinos would be removed from the Mandovi river. Instead of doing that, a new casino and a floating hotel run by a casino operator has been given permission.”

The Congress, as well as local NGOs have alleged that the BJP is hand-in-glove with the casino industry, even to an extent of accusing them of having taken crores in kickbacks.
