Poker in India has just got an added boost. Long known for his support to the mind sport, Jamaican star cricketer Chris Gayle has now joined India’s oldest poker site Adda52 as their brand ambassador. Gayle, who has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for three teams till date, and most recently for the Kings XI Punjab in the 2018 IPL, is the second celebrity brand ambassador to be roped in by Adda52, after Bollywood actor Minissha Lamba.
With his enviable record in cricket, the self-named ‘Universal Boss’ who’s hugely popular in India is the ideal candidate to promote poker and will now be part of the company’s brand activations and promotional campaigns. Gayle will also promote Delta Corp’s new fantasy sports platform, LeagueAdda.
“I love playing poker and I’m really glad to be associated with Adda52! It’s amazing to see the growing passion for the game in India and I would love to be a part of this journey,”the legendary cricketer said.
The 38-year old has a very long list of achievements in cricket. Having played more than 400 international games for West Indies, he was the first batsman in the history of the World Cup to score a double century in the 2015 series. Known for his destructive style of batting, Gayle is the only player in world cricket to hit a triple hundred in Tests, a double hundred in ODIs and a hundred in Twenty20 Internationals.

These synergies between Gayle and Adda52 and the former’s interest in the game of Poker makes this the right combination,” Adda52’s official press release stated.

This will also help the audience relate more with poker as a skill-based yet fun game at the same time. Gayle is among the many sportsmen to play poker. Retired Australian cricket legend Shane Warne, who is a poker regular, was 888poker ambassador from 2008 to 2015 and also had a sponsorship agreement with Sportingbet.
In poker, Gayle has been described as an amateur player. The Caribbean southpaw started appearing on the felts a few years back and has been a regular at the high stakes cash games at Deltin Royale.
His long association with Adda52 was strengthened in April when he attended the Super High Roller Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) Colossus held at Deltin Royale Casino in Goa as the poker brand’s ambassador, where apart from promoting the event the ‘Gayle Storm’ also hit the felts at at the ₹2 Lakhs buy-in event on April 27th. Following this up, Adda52 recently announced the ‘Gayle Storm’ tournament on its site, with a ₹50 Lakhs guaranteed on a buy-in of ₹2,500 that makes it a high value event. The event officially kicks off on August 5, timed with Gayle coming on-board with the brand.
Adda52 Poker Pro player and WSOP bracelet winner Nikita Luther also welcomed Gayle to the Adda52 family. “Many people in the country are quite passionate about poker. Chris’s association with Adda52 will improve the awareness about the game and I am very excited about it,” Luther said.
With poker becoming bigger in India but still faced with numerous legal roadblocks, big names like Gayle endorsing the game will definitely add to its popular appeal among the masses.
