Usually, it’s Sundays that draw the most massive turnouts in poker. However, with the 11th edition of the IOPC hosting the final table of its marquee tourneys on Mondays, the start of the week is turning out to be equally exciting. Last evening, the final six players of the ₹27,500 entry buy-in IOPC Legends reconvened to play down to a champion. The 721-entry field made for a guarantee-crushing ₹1.80 Crore prize pool, and Amit ‘Kavipri’ Gehani was the frontrunner to win the ₹30 Lakhs up-top.
The 41-year-old player had entered the field with double the chips of his nearest competitor, Armaan ‘space ace’ Kochhar, and stepped past seasoned regs to win the title for a career-best ₹30 Lakhs, courtesy a heads-up deal with Young Gun Arsh ‘BigggTymeR’ Grover. Gehani became the fourth player to book his seat at the IOPC Masters Table!
The victory has given Gehani’s lifetime winnings a big boost, and he now boasts ₹83.60 Lakhs in online winnings. Gehani is looking sharp as he also bagged one of the top stacks on Day 1A of the ₹3.5 Crore GTD IOPC – The Crown.
The Delhi-based Arsh Grover eliminated bracelet winner Abhinav ‘hightr0ller’ Iyer, Rajeev ‘AthenaVolt’ Kumar, and Sumit ‘AAddicted’ Sapra before meeting Gehani heads-up for the title. Grover was at a slight chip disadvantage at the start of the heads-up, and they traded chips for about 10 minutes before shaking hands on a deal that awarded him a runner-up payday worth ₹24.79 Lakhs. 25-year-old Grover, who had closed out 2020 as the #2 ranked player on the annual charts, has been on a relative backburner this year, but the IOPC Legends runner-up score has laddered him up to #6 annual leaderboard standings. He hit two other milestones with this finish – crossing ₹2 Crores in annual winnings, at the same time, entering the ₹1 Crore club in yearly profits.
Sumit ‘AAddicted’ Sapra (3rd for ₹14.71 Lakhs), Rajeev ‘AthenaVolt’ Kumar (4th for ₹11.10 Lakhs), Armaan ‘space ace’ Kochhar (5th for ₹8.80 Lakhs) and Abhinav ‘hightr0ller’ Iyer (6th for ₹6.65 Lakhs) also won final table payouts.
Armaan Kochhar’s fifth-place finish in the IOPC Legends catapulted him into the top echelons of the yearly leaderboard standings, where he is currently ranked #5 with ₹2.04 Crore in annual winnings.
