Thursday night unfolded the usual tournament attractions, ranging from the Ultron to the Highroller, The Summit, and the popular Godfather. Poker players seem to have gotten over with the New Year hangover and back to the online grind as the MTT turnouts were considerably better last night.

Here`s a quick roundup of the Thursday marquee tourneys.

Spartan Poker

Spartan Poker’s Thursday night marquee, the ₹18 Lakhs GTD Ultron, had 435 entrants ponying up the ₹4,400 entry buy-in, translating into an overlay of ₹60,000. Climbing his way to the top was a relatively lesser-known player, Amit Suresh ‘Asg123’ Gehani, who helped himself to a winner’s paycheque worth ₹3.57 Lakhs after defeating seasoned MTT reg Siddarth ‘PeterPunter’ Singhvi (runner-up for ₹2.39 Lakhs) in heads-up play.

PokerStars India

The featured tourney running on PokerStars India was the ₹10 Lakhs GTD Highroller. Bringing in a starting field of 137 entries, it overlaid ₹41,000, and 23 places got paid – all of them collecting TLB points towards the “Star of the Month” – January leaderboard race. Young Gun Arsh ‘BiggggTymeR’ Grover was the last player standing in the Highroller and eliminated Ranjeet ‘Bedevilforyou’ Negi (runner-up for ₹1.57 Lakhs) in second place to bag his first title victory of 2021 for a payday worth ₹2.08 Lakhs.

Arsh Grover
Arsh Grover

Grover was the second-biggest winner of 2020 and seems to have picked up things right where he left them last year! The Delhi-based MTT crushed also finished fourth in Adda52`s ₹25 Lakhs Godfather for ₹1.87 Lakhs, raking in ₹3.95 Lakhs overall. He currently boasts of ₹6.43 Crores in lifetime online earnings.

The ₹5 Lakhs GTD Battle Royale wrangled in 177 entries, overlaying ₹57,500. Anirban ‘nocluewho’ D Das was the last player standing and won ₹1.09 Lakhs (₹55,410 in prize money, ₹53,828 in bounties) and his third tourney title in the New Year. Anirban Das went on a rampage last night with five deep runs, collecting almost ₹2 Lakhs in total winnings. Das has lapped up over ₹6.40 Lakhs already this week and sits on ₹4.14 Crores in lifetime MTT winnings.

The ₹1 Lakh GTD Bigstack Turbo was the second event awarding TLB points towards the “Star of the Month” leaderboard race last night. Taking off at 10.30 PM, the tourney recorded an overlay shortfall of ₹12,000 after 88 players signed up to play. Adda52

Adda52 has a grand month mapped out as part of its Suit Up January promotion. Last night`s ₹25 Lakhs GTD Godfather had the most massive prize pool guarantee on offer across all the online poker sites. The ₹5,500 entry buy-in tourney signed up 446 entries, filling in a significant ₹2.70 Lakhs in overlays. Ankur ‘Aceleration’ Sehgal juggernaut his way to the top to win ₹6.12 Lakhs after defeating “psychg0d” (anonymity requested) heads-up.

Ankur Sehgal

Sehgal also placed fourth in Pokerbaazi’s The Summit for ₹1.27 Lakhs, collecting a whopping ₹7.39 Lakhs overall. With over ₹1.83 Crores in tracked online winnings, Sehgal is fast closing in on the ₹2 Crore-marker.

Runner-up ‘psychg0d’, who had won the Adda52 Millions last Sunday for ₹6.86 Lakhs, banked ₹3.62 Lakhs.

Taking flight precisely 90 minutes after the Godfather was the ₹5 Lakhs GTD Monster Turbo. With a turnout of 251 runners, the tourney comfortably smashed its listed guarantee. The mystery player ‘IBluffULol’ shipped the tourney to win ₹1.47 Lakhs, with Bikshapathi ‘bikshapathi’ Velishetti conceding to a runner-up finish worth ₹86,760. The Summit runner-up finisher, Guruprasad ‘guruprasad_gupta’ Gupta,

placed fourth for ₹47,447.

PokerBaazi

PokerBaazi’s ₹15 Lakhs GTD The Summit with an entry buy-in of ₹8,250 turned out to be one of the costliest tourneys running last night. The steep buy-in fee was not a deterrent for players as a guarantee-smashing 215 entries helped generate a juicy ₹16.13 Lakhs prize pool. Over the next seven hours of play, the field whittled down to a heads showdown between PokerGuru Ambassador Arjanveer Singh ‘holdbaby’ Chadha and Guruprasad ‘fish_calling’ Gupta. Chadha, who had last championed The Pride on December 23 for ₹2.20 Lakhs, has come close to taking down The Summit on numerous occasions in the past, getting as close as second-place twice. He finally got the monkey off his back by shipping the tourney for an impressive ₹3.79 Lakhs. The Chandigarh-based pro, who was among the top 10 ranked players of 2020, currently sits on ₹5.66+ Crores in recorded online winnings across domestic sites.
