Friday marked the start of the busiest part of the week, and it was not surprising to see most of the flagship tourneys soaring past their posted guarantees.
Spartan Poker
With the Spartan Super Series (SSS) now on the home stretch, there are some massive GTD tourneys to look forward to the closing weekend. The biggest draw on Friday was the SSS The Elite ₹50 Lakhs GTD. Our Young Gun Anuj ‘titooTauji’ Yadav, who also happens to be a former Millionaire Champion, made it through a stacked field of 506 entries (224 unique, 123 re-entries and 159 rebuys) to capture the title for a payday worth ₹8.52 Lakhs. One spot behind him, seasoned pro Sumit ‘Sands Myth’ Sapra won ₹7.60 Lakhs for finishing runner-up.
The tournament broke past the guarantee to collect a ₹50.60 Lakhs prize pool, and rounding out the podium finishers was PokerGuru Ambassador Vivek ‘KasolHieghts’ Singh, who picked the bronze for a ₹4.69 Lakhs score.
Neeraj ‘SelfClaimedPros’ Kumar (4th for ₹3.80 Lakhs) was another online reg in the running to win the title, but the one name that stood out on the FT was that of PokerGuru Ambassador, Laksh ‘LuckyBhai$’ Pal Singh. The young online pro who is presently in Goa is simply unstoppable at the moment. Singh had a dream Thursday, where he finished runner-up in the SSS Ultron ₹30 Lakhs GTD for ₹4.70 Lakhs, and posted two other FT finishes. With a fifth-place finish in The Elite last night for ₹2.99 Lakhs, Singh has continued his unbeaten run this week!
The other featured SSS tourney was the TGIF ₹15 Lakhs GTD that was running alongside The Elite. The tourney as always was a resounding success as a strong turnout of 1,285 entries (549 unique, 217 re-entries and 519 rebuys) helped generate a guarantee-busting ₹19.27 Lakhs prize pool. Gaurav ‘VantaBlack’ Gupta stormed past the competition to lock horns with ‘Spotzero’ in the final showdown. The mystery player ‘Spotzero’ has been racking up commendable scores lately. On the last Sunday of March, he had shipped the Mega Freeze for ₹1.49 Lakhs and followed that up by winning the Destiny Junior ₹5 Lakhs on Wednesday for ₹1.66 Lakhs. The anonymous player agreed to a heads-up deal with Gupta last night that saw the latter clinch the title along with a ₹3.06 Lakhs paycheque, with ‘Spotzero’ pocketing ₹2.79 Lakhs.
PokerBaazi
The action was back to a brisk pace on PokerBaazi that saw its marquee Friday tourney The Ridge ₹10 Lakhs GTD making its weekly run. The tournament mustered the numbers with a 368-strong field (204 unique, and 164 re-entries), generating a healthy ₹11.04 Lakhs prize pool.
Once again, the final table featured some of the most prominent players in the circuit. Edging past seasoned pros like Sriharsha ‘ivey2’ Doddapaneni (3rd for ₹1.04 Lakhs) and former Millionaire champion Chirag ‘miyagi’ Sodha (4th for ₹77,280) was PokerGuru Ambassador Jayjit ‘england’ Ray, who entered the heads-up finale with Sagar ‘sagarpupul’ Choudhury. The clash ended with Choudhury pocketing ₹2.62 Lakhs as the first-place prize. Ray had to settle for a ₹1.62 Lakhs payout after placing second.
Choudhury may have claimed the biggest prize on the site, but Dhaval ‘dhavhe’ Heda and Paawan ‘ukissmyace’ Bansal were the other big winners as they took down the Afternoon Blaze ₹4 Lakhs GTD for ₹96,600 and the Friday SuperStack ₹3 Lakhs GTD for ₹84,060, respectively.
Adda52
Action at the ongoing Adda Online Poker Series (AOPS) has intensified with the most-awaited tournament of the series, the AOPS FullHouse ₹1 Crore GTD beginning proceedings yesterday. Day 1A on Friday saw 333 hopefuls (217 unique and 116 re-entries) converging to the felts. After 29 fast-paced levels, only 37 runners made it to Day 2. Topping the list of advancing players was none other than Nishant ‘DoJingBULLETS’ Sharma (348,709). The Mumbai-based pro, who holds the distinction of being the only Indian player to have made a top-50 finish in the WSOP Main Event to date, bagged the most massive stack at the end of Day 1A. In hot pursuit is Himanshu ‘KHighisGood’ Dewan (328,580), with PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish ‘rocky3705’ Ahuja (288,027) rounding out the top three stacks.
But the most significant slice of the action was brought on at the AOPS Calangute. With an advertised guarantee as hefty as ₹30 Lakhs, the tournament logged in 502 entries (258 unique and 244 re-entries), collecting a guarantee-busting ₹34.23 Lakhs in prize money. Outlasting a stacked final table replete with seasoned regs like Goonjan ‘gmtesting’ Mall (3rd for ₹3.25 Lakhs), Kanav ‘alibaba_kings’ Parwal (6th for ₹1.19 Lakhs), Aniket ‘sandystorm’ Pradhan (8th for ₹68,473) and Akash ‘profishnal’ Malik (9th for ₹51,355) was our latest Young Gun Anmol ‘anzzzzz’ Mehta. A fourth-generation lawyer turned-poker pro, Mehta has been slaying it on the felts in recent months, and with this win, he has crossed the ₹1.5 Crore-mark in recorded online winnings. His career-best score remains the PPL Highroller 50 Lakhs GTD title that he won back in March for ₹14.91 Lakhs. Mehta has since added several other titles to his resume, including the ReCharge and Destiny on Spartan and the Godfather on Adda52. On Friday night, Mehta added another flagship title to his tally by taking down the AOPS Calangute, where he defeated his bete noire ‘vinaysk’ (runner-up for ₹4.79 Lakhs) heads-up to win ₹8.22 Lakhs!!
PokerStars India
Both the Friday night majors, the INSCOOP Uppercut INSCOOP Edition ₹10 Lakhs GTD, and the Friday Euphoria ₹5 Lakhs GTD, smashed their guarantees handing out the titles to Kaushik Tibrewal and PokerGuru Ambassador Devvrat Arya, respectively.
Tibrewal was among the 289 entrants (166 unique and 123 re-entries) who entered the Uppercut. He had stiff competition from his heads-up opponent Nishant ‘DoJingBULLETSS’ Sharma, who was on a roll last night and even bagged the end-of-Day 1A chip lead in the AOPS Full House. Tibrewal eventually sent Sharma to the rail to capture the title and the winner’s purse worth ₹1.61 Lakhs. Sharma had to make do with a runner-up score of ₹1.46 Lakhs. The tourney generated a prize pool worth ₹11.56 Lakhs.
Over at the Friday Euphoria, Devvrat Arya ran past a field of 209 entries (120 unique and 89 re-entries) and a final table that comprised of several of his own stable-mates, namely, Shashank ‘GOAT-245’ Desai (4th for ₹39,458) and Vivek ‘Mystic Peaks’ Singh (5th for ₹29,083) to win ₹98,537.
