Thursday night unfolded some epic action on the virtual felts and several standout performances.
Spartan Poker
The showstopper tourney of the day was the SSS High Roller ₹60 Lakhs GTD. Young Gun Arsh ‘BigggTymeR’ Grover, who has been a juggernaut in the online MTT`s, topped the 273-strong field (144 unique, 59 re-entries and 70 rebuys) to add another seven-figure score to his tally. Only last Friday, Grover had taken down Adda52`s The Ballers for ₹5.60 Lakhs following a heads-up deal with Sreekanth ‘n0thing’ Narayan. Co-incidentally, both these players went on to win the two biggest tourneys last night.
Grover topped the 273-strong field (144 unique, 59 re-entries and 70 rebuys) in the SSS High Roller to add another seven-figure score to his tally. He pierced his way through a stacked final table that had prominent regs like Harshad ‘omglukbox’ Barve (3rd for ₹7.02 Lakhs), Young Gun Ujjwal Narwal (4th for ₹5.72 Lakhs), Siddarth ‘PeterPunter’ Singhvi (5th for ₹4.56 Lakhs), PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish ‘Spewushhhiiiii’ Ahuja (6th for ₹3.50 Lakhs), former Millionaire champion Anurag ‘Norman Bates’ Srivastava (7th for ₹2.55 Lakhs), PokerGuru Ambassador Kartik ‘TheInternetKid’ Ved (8th for ₹1.84 Lakhs) and Manish ‘thekid’ Lakhotia (9th for ₹1.52 Lakhs) in the reckoning. The tourney generated a guarantee-busting ₹68.25 Lakhs prize pool and Grover snapped off the lion’s share worth ₹15.11 Lakhs after defeating ‘masterbluff’ runner-up for ₹10.20 Lakhs) heads-up!
Srivastava, who is the biggest Millionaire champion of the year so far, deserves special mention for making three FT finishes last night. The most prominent of the three was his seventh-place finish in the SSS High Roller. He supplemented that by placing third in the AOPS CrackJack for ₹52,080 and collected another ₹5,235 for his ninth-place finish in the AOPS Afterparty PKO.
With the SSS High Roller getting most of the attention, the other Thursday flagship, the SSS Ultron ₹30 Lakhs GTD, failed to meet its posted guarantee. A turnout of 747 entries (359 unique, 135 re-entries, and 253 rebuys) resulted in an overlay of ₹12,000. PokerGuru Ambassador Laksh Pal ‘LuckyBhai$’ Singh, who has been on a trailblazing run these past few weeks, was once again in the reckoning to win the title. Playing heads-up with site regular ‘Callmebabe’, Singh brokered a heads-up deal that fetched him ₹4.70 Lakhs, while the latter pocketed ₹4.73 Lakhs and the bragging rights of winning the title!
Notably, Singh FTed the AOPS Aguada PLO on Adda52 as well, finishing ninth for ₹24,375. Some of Singh`s recent exploits from this week include a runner-up finish at Adda52’s Hexagram and a sixth-place score in The Ridge on PokerBaazi.
The other big tournament on the site was the SSS Big Bounty ₹7.5 Lakhs GTD. The Big Bounty brought in 339 players (209 unique, 31 re-entries and 99 rebuys), coming up ₹72,000 short on the prize pool guaranteed. Ishaan ‘potripper16’ Bhatia fired two bullets before he was able to make it to the final table. In the end, Bhatia split the top payouts with Mohit ‘TurnYourAce’ Kankariya (2nd for ₹1.15 Lakhs), and Annkur ‘CYCLONE 1121’ Agarwal (3rd for ₹1.07 Lakhs), and walked away with ₹1.17 Lakhs.
On the site’s day-time SSS#45 Afternoon Showdown – Monster Stack ₹5.5 Lakhs GTD, PokerGuru Ambasasdor Tathagata ‘RadioActivity’ Sengupta came up against Amit ‘Magnemo’ Sahu in the heads-up play. Sahu prevailed, shipping the event for ₹1.05 Lakhs, while Sengupta collected ₹98,857 for his runner-up finish.
The other prominent scorer was Ankur ‘showstopper89’ Aryan who final-tabled the SSS#49 Big Bounty ₹7.5 Lakhs GTD (7th for ₹26,775) as well as the SSS#46 ₹3 Lakhs GTD (8th for ₹8,730).
PokerBaazi
For the fourth day in a row, we don’t have any scores from PokerBaazi. The site that witnessed a 72-hour downtime due to a technical failure finally resumed operations late last night.
In an e-mail sent to all its registered players, the site has announced a series of giveaways to make up for the prolonged downtime. For one, PokerBaazi has declared that it will be hosting a month of Freeroll tournaments worth ₹1 Crore starting next week. The much-awaited TDS Carnival cash game promotion that offers 100% tax-free withdrawals has also gone live on the site. Poker Insurance and new deposit codes for instant Real Cash Bonus (RCB) are the other sops announced.
Adda52
The Adda52 Online Poker Series hit the ground running last night, and this time the series sports a distinct Goa theme and promises a massive ₹7.8 Crores GTD. The biggest draw on Thursday was the AOPS Mandovi ₹35 Lakhs GTD. A healthy field of 774 entries (395 unique and 379 re-entries) saw the tournament blow the guarantee to smithereens, collecting ₹38.70 Lakhs in prize money. Days after he finished runner-up to Grover in the site`s flagship, The Ballers, for ₹4.89 Lakhs, Sreekanth ‘n0thing’ Narayan came back stronger, this time adding a whopping ₹8.90 Lakhs for his title win. Narayan’s final opponent was relatively low-key Raghav ‘Raghavv’ Siddalinga, who banked a runner-up payday worth ₹5.10 Lakhs.
Siddalinga even made it on the final table of the AOPS Aguada PLO ₹7.5 Lakhs GTD that drew 100 entries (59 unique and 41 re-entries). While the event had an overlay of ₹68,000, Siddalinga took up the ninth place, earning ₹20,625.
