It was yet another day on the virtual felts that was drenched in overlays. So much so that even the guarantee-smashing inaugural WPT Online India (WPTOI) series saw its big-ticket tourneys failing to meet their advertised guarantees.
Here is a recap of the Monday tournaments!
The Monday signature event on Spartan Poker, ₹10 Lakhs GTD ReCharge, attracted 493 contenders, but it wasn’t enough to avoid a marginal overlay of ₹14,000. Mystery user ‘Esoteric’ trounced the field and clinched the top prize of ₹1.85 Lakhs. A heads-up deal ensured that ‘bob_marley’ pocketed ₹1.48 Lakhs for their second-place finish.
The other Monday marquee on Spartan Poker, the ₹5.50 Lakhs GTD The Flash logged in 517 entries to register a ₹33,000 shortfall. ‘Slippery Slope’ took down the event for ₹77,328, after striking a four-way deal with ‘jackoffoff’ (runner-up for ₹71,410), ‘FinalTable007’ (3rd for ₹60,099) and ‘MAARRI’ (4th for ₹58,793).
PokerStars India’s Monday night bonanza, the ₹5 Lakhs GTD Eliminator, was among the tourneys that suffered an overlay last night. A turnout of 276 entries led to the site having to fill in a shortfall of ₹86,000. Online reg Sagar ‘sagarpupull’ Choudhury emerged victorious, netting ₹1.12 Lakhs for the win. He struck a heads-up deal with ‘crylighter’ (runner-up for ₹59,764) before claiming the title. All 27 ITM finishers in the tourney collected TLB points towards the “Star of the Month” – November leaderboard race.
Choudhury is a prolific MTT crusher and has been in good form, for the most part, this year. He has accumulated an impressive ₹1.93 Crores from MTTs this year to sit among the top 30 winners of 2020.
The ₹1 Lakhs GTD Bigstack Turbo drew in 86 entries, overlaying ₹14,000. ‘Jaffery25’ shipped the event for ₹19,021, after agreeing to a three-way chop with ‘lovlok2’ (runner-up for ₹18,939) and Aastik ‘GoForKill’ Bhatia (3rd for ₹15,253).
PokerStars India’s weekly leaderboard race, ‘Star of the Month,’ has been steadily heating up. At present, Siddharth Pandey is in the pole position with 696 points. However, Armaan Kochhar is hot on Pandey’s heels and is seated in the second spot with 659 points.
The fifth day of the WPT Online India was headlined by the ₹15 Lakhs GTD WPT Monday Feature that offered the most massive prize pool guarantee of the day. The tourney ran for more than six hours and collected 444 entries – falling ₹79,200 short of its listed guarantee to become the series’ first WPT Trophy event to register an overlay.
Gagandeep ‘gaganhyd’ Singh conquered the title and top prize of ₹3.67 Lakhs, while Rachit ‘baba_ramdev’ Soni finished runner-up for ₹2.17 Lakhs. Besides taking down the WPT Monday Feature, Gangandeep also cashed the WPT Monster Turbo (14th for ₹11,375), taking his overall Monday score to ₹3.78 Lakhs. Singh currently has lifetime online earnings of ₹77.58 Lakhs.

Offering ₹7 Lakhs in prize pool guarantees, the ₹2,750 entry buy-in event pulled in 307 participants and amassed a prize pool worth ₹7.68 Lakhs. 2020 India Poker Champion Rubin ‘kornkif’ Labroo triumphed over the crowded field to clinch his career-first WPT Online title, along with a cool ₹1.58 Lakhs payday. A heads-up chop witnessed Sanjay ‘Floppednuts’ Kumar rake in ₹1.49 Lakhs for his runner-up finish. Labroo is presently sitting atop ₹5.3 Crores in online earnings, of which ₹2.01 Crores he has earned this year.
The ₹5 Lakhs GTD WPT Classic also experienced an overlay. It fell ₹98,690 short of the break-even mark after registering 294 entrants. Business Head of Poker at Delta Corp, Manish ‘jhulelaal’ J. Adnani, was in phenomenal form yesterday. He kicked off the day by taking the Morning Adda for ₹14,500 before making a 15th place finish in the WPT Hustle for ₹2,039. He came whiskers close to claiming back-to-back WPT Online title in the WPT Classic but ultimately fell one spot short of the win, placing second for ₹76,250. The event was championed by ‘anand1895’ for ₹1.28 Lakhs.
The Bout was the featured tourney on PokerBaazi’s Monday roster. With a buy-in of ₹2,750, the event promised a ₹10 Lakhs guarantee. This was comfortably surpassed after 413 participants registered for the event, generating ₹10.33 Lakhs in the prize pool.
