The high stakes cash game regular chopped the top prize heads-up with the start-of-day chip leader Ashwin ‘A116’ Vijay, who pocketed ₹12.01 Lakhs.
The ₹7,700 entry buy-in event hosted three starting flights on Sunday, clocking in 1,500 entries between them, and 215 places got paid a share from the ₹1.05 Crore prize pool.
The final eight contestants of the tourney converged for the final table play at 5 PM, and the event was live-streamed from 6 PM, with Peter Abraham, Goonjan Mall, and Young Gun Kanchan Sharma calling the action.
Barve is a former professional water polo professional who has represented Maharashtra and India at various domestic and international sports meets. He is an old-timer and a regular at live poker events since 2010 with a litany of titles under his belt. He championed the 2012 APT Highroller and won his first IOPC title in IOPC The Elite on July 19, 2019. Barve also picked up a fourth-place score at the IPC Highroller in January 2020.
Talking about Barve`s final table run, the 38-year-old poker player from Pune entered the final table fifth in chips but charted a steady climb up. Barve started chipping up after knocking Young Gun Shardul ‘Faucet Failure’ Parthasarathi out in seventh place. He found his next victim in Advait ‘GTf018’ Rajguru, whom he eliminated in fifth place. Rajguru held which proved no match against Barve’s that hit a full house on the runout .
At four-handed play, Barve and Vijay were the two top stacks, but the former took the lead after winning a massive pot through ‘Heartbrrkr.’ The latter was chasing a flush draw with but couldn`t get there as the board saw Barve hitting trips.
Barve steadily added to his stack, even as ‘Heartbrrkr’ was eliminated by Vijay with his flopped pair of sevens dominating the former’s pair of fours.
At three-handed play, Barve sat with more chips than Karia and Vijay. Young Gun Siddharth ‘Ari Tribbiani’ Karia, who had eliminated Sachin ‘Ulluminati’ Sharma, fought valiantly on the FT but steadily lost his stack. He hit the rail after moving all-in with pocket sevens only to come up against Vijay`s pocket nines. Karia needed a seven to survive but the board ran , eliminating him in third place.
Barve entered heads-up with 1,183,390 against Vijay’s 915,594. The two players shook hands on a deal that handed Barve the IOPC Gold Badge, with Vijay conceding to a runner-up finish.
