After two weeks of high-octane action at the National Poker Series, the online poker action will likely settle down a little for the next fortnight before the 11th edition of the IOPC kicks off on July 11 on Spartan Poker.
Monday saw an overlay avalanche, with most sites having to fill in significant overlays in primetime events.
Spartan Poker’s The Big Deal returned as the biggest guaranteed event on offer. The NPS Golden Rush runner-up finisher Kushagra Mehta championed the event for a ₹7.87 Lakhs payday, while Ghanshyam Tripathi finished runner-up for ₹5.52 Lakhs.
Here are the Monday highlights!

Spartan Poker
Spartan Poker yet again carried out two marquees on Monday, and headlining the schedule was the ₹30 Lakhs GTD The Big Deal. Kushagra ‘The Unconventional’ Mehta was the last player standing in the ₹22,000 entry buy-in high roller, and he traversed the 140-entry field to collect a ₹7.87 Lakhs payday.
Kushagra Mehta’s stellar run at the FTS 2.0 earlier in the year earned him the nickname ‘Mr. Consistent’. He has, well and truly, lived up to the name. On the heels of a spectacular Sunday run that saw him clinch the NPS Silver Medal in the iconic NPS Golden Rush, Mehta was back at the virtual felts, clinching his career-first The Big Deal title, pushing his lifetime online winnings close to ₹80 Lakhs.
For a third consecutive week, The Big Deal experienced an overlay. This time around, the site had to fill in a deficit of ₹2 Lakhs. The top 13 spots received payouts.
The three-time Destiny winner Ghanshyam ‘Tiger10’ Tripathi placed second for ₹5.52 Lakhs, while Krishna Chaitanya Reddy ‘virenderkris’ Bannur locked up the third-place payout worth ₹3.64 Lakhs.
Fourth-place finisher Ronuk ‘Redbullwings’ Lekhraj deserves special mention. After raking in a cumulative ₹3.32 Lakhs on Friday, he went on another winning spree yesterday, ending up with ₹3.10 Lakhs in Monday winnings.
His ITM finishes include:
> 4th in Spartan Poker’s The Big Deal for ₹2,86,500
> 8th in Spartan Poker’s ReCharge for ₹23,940
The other flagship on offer was the ReCharge. With the NPS now in the books, the ReCharge had its guarantee boosted back to ₹9.50 Lakhs from last week’s ₹9 Lakhs. With 434 contenders signing up to play, the event registered an overlay shortfall of ₹82,000. Ashwini ‘DANIELDURR’ Panwar juggernaut to the top of the field, claiming the title and top prize of ₹1.61 Lakhs. A heads-up deal saw online reg Jyoti ‘joey114114’ Ranjan Nayak take home ₹1.55 Lakhs for his runner-up finish.
This win propelled Ashwini Panwar’s tracked online winnings to ₹6.53 Lakhs (across Spartan Poker & Adda52).
PokerBaazi
With two weeks of mind-boggling National Poker Series (NPS) action now in the rear-view mirror, PokerBaazi returned to its regular weekly schedule. Starting off the working week was the Monday bonanza, the ₹7.5 Lakhs GTD The Big Show. The ₹2,750 entry buy-in event logged in 439 entries, posting a ₹10.98 Lakhs prize pool. The player known only as Vinod, aka ‘Vinuggurikar,’ championed the tournament for ₹2.20 Lakhs. Vinod had won his way into The Big Show through a ₹132 satellite and ended up shipping the event to improve his online earnings to ₹3.39 Lakhs.
For a second time this week, PokerBaazi reg ‘macchi’ came close to capturing the title but eventually settled for a runner-up finish. The anonymous player had placed second in the NPS#90 Slam Dunk on Sunday and followed through with yet another runner-up finish in this event, adding ₹1.54 Lakhs in winnings.
