It’s a tale as old as time, Mondays that follow blockbuster Sundays always pale in comparison. Though at the start of the lockdown period when casinos had shut down, online traffic had spiked considerably, and even the Monday tournaments were regularly crushing their GTDs. But over time, the hype seems to have mellowed down – so much so that even the Sunday flagships have started registering overlays. This past Monday, too, was doomed by the overlay curse, with all the major tourneys falling short of their listed guarantees.
Here is a recap of what went down.
Spartan Poker
Given that Mondays are usually the slowest day of the week for online poker, Spartan Poker’s ₹10 Lakhs GTD ReCharge failed to meet its advertised guarantee by ₹22,000. The ₹2,200 buy-in tourney gathered 489 entries, and only the top 39 runners received payouts. Mystery user ‘CRED’ trounced the field and bested ‘Mojji’ (runner-up for ₹1.31 Lakhs) heads-up to claim the title and top prize of ₹2 Lakhs. Old-timer Amar ‘amarthepro’ Katharani came in third for ₹95,736. The champion presently has ₹16.58 Lakhs in earnings on Spartan Poker; however, they still need ₹1.80 Lakhs to get out of the red zone.
Unlike the ReCharge, the ₹6 Lakhs GTD Flash had a far more eventful run. After logging in 592 entries, the event managed to surpass its proposed guarantee by ₹12,000. Kamran ‘aamaadmi’ Alam took down the event for ₹90,623, after striking a three-way deal with ‘wcr185’ (runner-up for ₹79,736) and ‘Ayeronic’ (3rd for ₹77,199).
Adda52
The Monday night headliner on Adda52 was the ₹10 Lakhs GTD Inception that garnered a field of 304 entries, experiencing an overlay of ₹27,200. Peushup ‘peushup’ Eugene locked horns with ‘ganu12’ for the title. In the end, the former walked away with the top honors following a heads-up chop. Eugene banked ₹2.06 Lakhs, while ‘ganu12’ pocketed an equally impressive ₹2.02 Lakhs for their runner-up finish.
The ₹3 Lakhs GTD Hexagram crowned a champion in Ranjeet ‘rj147’ Negi, who traversed a field of 144 participants to win ₹65,455. A three-way deal saw ‘gaurav_libra4’ (runner-up for ₹62,101) and Aarchit ‘Aarchit’ Dhadwal (3rd for ₹51,694) also secure podium finishes. Incidentally, Negi even final tabled PokerStars India’s Battle Royale, placing sixth for ₹21,880.
PokerStars India
Headlining the Monday roster of events on PokerStars India was the ₹6 Lakhs GTD Battle Royale. Again, the site witnessed a ₹42,500 shortfall in its Monday marquee tourney on the back of 223 entries. Unknown user ‘cutymannu89’ shipped the event for ₹1.42 Lakhs, just as ‘kosmoz21’ came in second for ₹72,407. Vikram ‘GreenSTUFF79’ Mishra rounded out the top three finishes, netting ₹44,061 in third place prize money.
PokerStars India’s The Classic Monday ₹2.5 Lakhs GTD brought in 101 entrants, falling ₹48,000 short of reaching the break-even mark. ‘drpokerabc’ won the event for ₹51,105, following a heads-up deal with Shailesh ‘ArithemeticMean’ Patel who finished runner-up for ₹49,680.
