IOPC United FT 1.50 Crore GTD – Spartan Poker

Buy-in – ₹5,500

Entries – 3,067

Prize Pool – ₹1,53,35,000

Places Paid – 383

IOPC United – the second marquee event at the ongoing IOPC edition, played down to a champion last night. Piyush ‘jacks_apart’ Jain, who started at the middle of the back on the FT, cut his way across the star-studded field to clinch the IOPC Gold Badge of Honor and a career-best ₹20.73 Lakhs. Jain chopped the top prize heads-up deal with Amit ‘DoctorGTO’ Ajwani, the latter bagging a personal-best ₹17.72 Lakhs for his runner-up finish.

All of 28 years old, Jodhpur-based Piyush Jain is a former Adda52 Millions Highroller champion. He had entered the final table fourth in chips and spun up early to an above-average stack. Jain played tight the first few orbits, and it was only about 30 minutes into play that he climbed up in contention after winning a massive pot again Young Gun Gaurav ‘mozzie17’ Sood. Jain soon dispatched the 2020 annual leaderboard topper in fifth place to take over a commanding chip lead, and he did not relinquish the advantage till the very end.

Piyush Jain eliminated the TLB chaser Neeraj ‘Jannat_52’ Kumar in third place en route to his heads-up match against Ajwani. The two finalists quickly shook hands on the deal, with Jain securing the title. The victory is not only a personal-best milestone for Jain, whose online winnings coming into this event stood at ₹36.87 Lakhs, but he also walked away with the single-largest payday at the IOPC so far while also securing himself a seat at the IOPC Masters Table!

The ₹5,500 entry buy-in event registered 3,067 entries across five starting flights, and the final eight players reconvened play at 5 PM. The final table took under 90 minutes to declare a champion.

The event was live-streamed and broadcasted across different channels, with Peter Abraham, Raj Juneja, and the IOPC United final table bubble boy Goonjan Mall commentating.

Recapping the FT action, the start of the day chip leader PokerGuru Ambassador Vishal ‘CrownUpJr’ Bajaj lost a few pots early on to chip down. Young Gun Gaurav ‘mozzie17’ Sood had started with the second-biggest stack and soon took over the chip lead.

Sreekanth ‘GL1DE’ Narayan was the first player to fall after his ace-queen was outrun by Neeraj ‘Jannat52’ Kumar’s pocket fours.

Kumar claimed his second victim around 20 minutes later when Usman ‘Witty.White’ Alam jammed all-in preflop with jack-king. Kumar held pocket fives and called it off. A five on the window improved Kumar to a three-of-a-kind, eliminating Alam in seventh place.

Play continued for 18 minutes before the start-of-FT chip leader Vishal ‘CrownUpJr’ Bajaj lost a few crucial pots to become short-stacked. Gaurav Sood soon delivered the fatal blow to Bajaj. The hand in question saw Sood making an open with king-ten. Piyush Jain, who held ace-king folded, and Bajaj moved all-in with pocket jacks from the big blind. Sood called off with ace-king, and it was off to the races. Bajaj was eyeing a double up, but Sood spiked a king on the river, eliminating Bajaj in sixth place.

Five-handed, Sood held the chip lead, with Piyush Jain second in chips.

Piyush Jain lost a sizable pot to Sood but soon won it all back in one of the most interesting hands of the final table. Sood jammed on the river with and Jain called off with . Jain had hit a backdoor flush on the board and doubled up. He now held more chips than the rest of the final table combined.

The short-stacked Gaurav ‘mozzie17’ Sood soon fell out in fifth place after his ace-four ran into Piyush Jain`s ace-jack.

Suraj Todi’s dismissal in fourth place by Neeraj Kumar set up the three-handed play. These three soon became two when Piyush Jain eliminated Neeraj ‘Jannat52’ Kumar in third place with his ace-king holding on against Kumar`s king-six.

With Kumar gone, Piyush Jain and Amit ‘DoctorGTO’ Ajwani chopped the remaining prize money. Jain, who was the chip leader at the time, took home the title, with Ajwani settling for a runner-up finish.
