Thursday marked the start of India`s biggest online tournament series! The magnum opus India Online Poker Championship July edition boasts an unheard-of ₹25 Crores in prize pool guarantee across 18 days of non-stop action. We will be bringing you daily updates on the biggest winners from the series. Not to forget, PokerBaazi’s PMVS and Adda52’s AOPS that make this one of the busiest weeks for tournament players in the country!

Let’s do a complete recap of the Thursday flagships and who came out on top.

Spartan Poker

The headline tourney on the opening day of the IOPC was the ₹35 Lakhs GTD Ultron. As expected, the event turned out to be a smashing hit. With an entry fee of ₹4,400, the Ultron managed to register 1,048 entries, blowing the listed guarantee away to smithereens, and the top 103 finishers took a share out of the juicy ₹41.92 Lakhs prize pool. Racing past the competition was emerging online crusher Anurag ‘sangahi’ Sangahi, who collided with ‘GODSENT’ (runner-up for ₹4.85 Lakhs) heads-up for the title. The former eventually prevailed to collect his career`s second-best score worth ₹7.93 Lakhs! Sangahi had won the AOPS Full House Finale in June and is fast closing in towards the ₹40 Lakh-mark in recorded online earnings!

Another marque tourney on the line-up was the ₹15 Lakhs GTD IOPC #6, which recorded a packed field of 715 runners to accumulate a hefty ₹21.45 Lakhs prize pool. Championing the tourney was MTT reg Anish ‘anishsuri’ Suri, who earned a ₹3 Lakhs payday following a three-way deal with Zarvan ‘BolAuntyAuKya’ Tumboli (2nd for ₹2.90 Lakhs) and ‘Armitrage’ (3rd for ₹2.72 Lakhs).

The ₹8 Lakhs GTD IOPC#7 Monster Stack found a winner in the anonymous reg ‘McFly,’ who pocketed ₹2.35 Lakhs following a heads-up deal with ‘B@NKSY’ (2nd for ₹2.16 Lakhs).

The ₹6 Lakhs GTD IOPC#2 was taken down by ‘waghoneblood$,’ who won ₹1.64 Lakhs after a heads-up chop with Anuj ‘Anuj16101’ Laddhad (2nd for ₹1.59 Lakhs)

The ₹5 Lakhs GTD IOPC#3 Monster Stack brought in 1,162 entries, and topping them all was Young Gun Siddharth ‘schemer77’ Karia, who took away ₹1.76 Lakhs in prize money after a heads-up deal with ‘FunkeyFox’ (runner-up for ₹1.07 Lakhs).

PokerBaazi

The featured tourney on PokerBaazi, the ₹20 Lakhs GTD PMVS#8 HR Summit logged in 295 entries to generate a guarantee-smashing ₹22.13 Lakhs prize pool. Traversing the field was MTT beast Sriharsha ‘Ivey2’ Doddapaneni, who defeated Sumit ‘boronyx’ Sapra (runner-up for ₹3.43 Lakhs) heads-up to win the title and ₹4.89 Lakhs.

Sporting a ₹3,300 buy-in, the ₹10 Lakhs GTD PMVS #9 MegaStack clocked in 300 entries that resulted in a shortfall of ₹1 Lakh on the listed guarantee. Besting them was Sandy ‘Ziigmund’ Lamba, who defeated Naman ‘namsbohra’ Bohra (runner-up for ₹1.55 Lakhs) heads-up to score a ₹2.21 Lakhs payday.

Adda52

The start of the IOPC made a significant dent in turnouts at Adda52 on Thursday. The site`s ₹40 Lakhs GTD AOPS Godfather witnessed a ₹5 Lakhs shortfall on the back of 700 entries. It was an unknown reg ‘bluechipp’ who championed the tourney to earn the seven-figure top prize worth ₹10 Lakhs. Mystery user ‘GigaaBet’ placed runner-up for ₹5.80 Lakhs.

The other Thursday night attraction on the site, the ₹20 Lakhs GTD AOPS PLO High Roller, didn’t fare much better. A below-par turnout of 132 entries saw the site filling in the ₹2.18 Lakhs shortfall. Starting out at 9:30 PM, the tourney took almost eight hours to play down to the winner. It ended with Gaurav ‘Dealer11’ Sharma cutting a heads-up deal with the winning machine Chirag ‘cs56’ Sodha for ₹4.99 Lakhs in prize money. Sodha earned a paycheck of ₹4.10 Lakhs for his runner-up finish.

The showstopper tourney of the series, the ₹3 Crore GTD AOPS Main Event played out its second and third starting flights last night. Day 1B drew a total of 145 entries of which only 21 players survived, and bagging the chip lead was mystery user ‘MegaFish1’ who bagged 257,632 in chips. Manish ‘newkidpoker’ Lakhotia (177,357) and ‘alokgray’ (173,605) rounded out the top three stacks.

Day 1C of the ₹11,000 buy-in tourney sold 248 entry slips, and only 29 among them advanced through to Day 2. Bagging the end of day chip lead was a mystery player ‘yud1006,’ who will return for Day 2 with 331,415 in chips. Adda52 Team Pro Tarun ‘aggtarun’ Goyal (265,346) and ‘kumar’ (241,474) were next in line in the chip counts.

PokerStars India

PokerStars India has been another platform that seems to be struggling with overlays. The site`s signature Thursday tourney, the ₹15 Lakhs GTD Highroller, couldn’t replicate last week’s success. The ₹7,700 buy-in event pulled in 185 entries, which led to a massive overlay of ₹2.05 Lakhs, and the top 31 places benefitted from the added value. Plowing his way through the stacked FT was none other than PokerGuru Ambassador Ashish ‘Spewushhhiiiii’ Ahuja, who added ₹2.98 Lakhs to his burgeoning bankroll after defeating Young Gun Ujjwal ‘CougarHunter69’ Narwal (runner-up for ₹2.22 Lakhs) in the heads-up.

The ₹2,750 buy-in Battle Royale Mini did better as a field of 208 challengers helped avoid an outlay for the site. The top two places decided to chop the remaining prize and play for the bounty and the title. In the end, Rajat ‘Rsd1207’ Singh Dhingra clinched the title for ₹1.07 Lakhs (₹44,331 in prize money and ₹62,881 in bounties). The runner-up ‘nagapoker1122’ received ₹58,784 (₹44,331 in prize money and ₹14,453 in bounties).

There was a string of standout winners on Thursday, and the most prominent among them was Young Gun Anmol Mehta. He FT-ed two flagship tourneys last night, finishing fourth in PokerStars India’s Highroller for ₹1.23 Lakhs, and placing seventh in the Summit for ₹81,420.

Another player who deserves special mention is MTT reg Aditya ‘adit11’ Kulkarni, who secured three podium finishes on Thursday! Kulkarni finished runner-up in the ₹4 Lakhs GTD PMVS#7 for ₹69,720 and finished third in two other PMVS tourneys – PMVS#9 MegaStack and PMVS#10 Knock Out for ₹99,700 and ₹32,640, respectively.

Another player on the trailblazer’s list from Thursday was Wilson ‘PokerBadger’ Yomso. This banker-cum-poker player FT-ed two tourneys as well, both in Monster events at the IOPC. Yomso first settled for a third-place finish in the IOPC#3 Monster Stack for ₹76,971 and followed that up by placing sixth in IOPC#7 Monster Stack for ₹60,540.
