Friday nights are generally packed with action but with two of the country’s leading online poker sites, PokerBaazi and Adda52, calling off their tournaments for technical glitches, it was unusually quiet yesterday. Nonetheless, Spartan Poker and PokerStars India kept the action moving, and let’s take a look at the highlights.
Spartan Poker
Spartan Poker’s biggest Friday tourney, the ₹35 Lakhs GTD The Elite, began proceedings at 9.30 PM. With 453 entries ponying up the ₹11,000 buy-in, the tourney crushed its guarantee going over 20% above the listed guarantee with a collection of ₹45.30 Lakhs.
Riding his stack to the finish line after the eight-and-a-half-hour grind was this week’s Big Daddy champion, Sathish ‘Jaqkten’ Ananth. He eventually struck a heads-up deal with ‘Bluff.me.not’ (runner-up for ₹7.06 Lakhs) to capture the title and the ₹7.36 Lakhs first-place cash prize.
Ananth seems to have won most of his big scores on Spartan Poker, and his biggest haul to date remains the ₹12.38 Lakhs that he won for his runner-up finish in the SSS Millionaire. With The Elite title in his grasp, Ananth’s total online winnings on the site stand at ₹95.75 Lakhs, and he is fast closing in on the ₹1 Crore-mark!
PokerGuru Ambassador Gokul ‘Super King’ Raj (5th for ₹2.68 Lakhs), Armaan ‘space ace’ Kochhar (6th for ₹2.04 Lakhs), Kunal ‘TiltAtma’ Patni (7th for ₹1.50 Lakhs), and Manish ‘thekid’ Lakhotia (9th for ₹90,600) were some top pros on the FT.
Over at the ₹12 Lakhs GTD TGIF, Mohit ‘Thejoker’ Mehta outlasted 1,001 entries and beat his heads-up rival ‘GuruGhantAALin’ (runner-up for ₹1.90 Lakhs) to win the title and the ₹2.22 Lakhs up-top. The event collected a generous prize pool of ₹15.01 Lakhs.
PokerStars India
A total of 270 players played PokerStars India’s ₹12 Lakhs GTD Uppercut MAGIC Edition last night. The tourney had an overlay of ₹1.20 Lakhs.
Anmolraj ‘modi chai wala’ Singh Chawla made a strong bid for the title but eventually fell to ‘adukre,’ who claimed the bragging rights and ₹2.21 Lakhs. Chawla finishing runner-up for ₹1.57 Lakhs.
Former IPC High Roller champion Pranay ‘aankhdikhatahai’ Chawla was the other big winner on the site. Chawla ran past 178 competitors to win the ₹5 Lakhs GTD Friday Euphoria for ₹96,018. This was his second consecutive day winning a tourney title on the site. On Thursday, he had won the Battle Royale Mini for ₹1.22 Lakhs.
Pocket52
Another player who won a six-figure payday last night was Tanmoy ‘Tanmo’ Chatterjee. He ran past 190 contenders to capture the ₹5 Lakhs GTD Pocket Kings title on Pocket52. Chatterjee defeated ‘Poppat’ (2nd for ₹67,500) heads-up to win ₹1.12 Lakhs. The tourney registered a sizable overlay worth ₹1.2 Lakhs.
PokerBaazi
PokerBaazi’s Friday tourneys, including its headliner, ₹10 Lakhs GTD The Ridge, were called off yesterday. The site reportedly suffered a technical issue that cropped up during the evening. Though the cash tables started working after only a brief disruption, the site had to cancel all tournaments scheduled before 12 AM. It had recently rolled out a new software update.
Adda52
Adda52’s technical woes began early this week, and since the site has called off all events this week, no tourneys were running on Friday.
