Another slow-paced Monday witnessed the majority of the marquee tourneys registering overlays. The star attraction at Adda52’s WPT Online India (WPTOI) series, the ₹2.5 Crores GTD WPT India Main Event, flagged off yesterday. More action is coming up ahead with Event #1 of IPC’s Final Table Series (FTS) set to start at 6 PM today. There are three FTS events on the tap today.
Here are the highlights of yesterday’s events!
Spartan Poker
India Poker Championship’s inaugural Final Table Series (FTS) kicked off yesterday by hosting three Mega Satellites. The series-opener ₹4 Lakhs GTD FTS#1 commences at 6 PM today.
The only marquee tourney to play out on Monday was the ₹2.25 Lakhs GTD Monster Stack. It ran from 3 PM to 8:30 PM and collected 340 entries, resulting in a prize pool collection of ₹2.27 Lakhs. The first Millionaire United champion Mahima ‘mambojojo’ Walia Das, shipped the event for ₹57,528 after besting the mystery user ‘FunkeyFox’ (runner-up for ₹38,732) heads-up. With this win, Das has improved her online earnings on Spartan Poker to ₹96.82 Lakhs.
PokerStars India
PokerStars India’s signature Monday event, the ₹5 Lakhs GTD Eliminator, wrangled in 349 contenders to collect a guarantee-smashing ₹5.23 Lakhs. Suresh ‘Wabi-$abi’ Kolli was the last player standing in the tourney and took home a winner’s paycheque worth ₹86,315, following a three-way deal with ‘ulta_chor’ (runner-up for ₹64,378) and ‘Psychonaut007′ (3rd for ₹44,842)
Kolli was among the 25 qualifiers from Week #2 of the “Star of the Month” – November race, and his Monday night victory has put him at the top of the Week #3 leaderboard standings. His overall online earnings have also crossed ₹1.02 Crores after the win.
The other Monday tourney awarding TLB points for the “Star of the Month” – November leaderboard race was the ₹1 Lakhs GTD Bigstack Turbo. The magnum opus of the inaugural WPT Online India, the ₹2.5 Crores GTD WPT India Main Event, is finally underway. The first of the Main Event’s 10 starting flights, Day 1A, commenced last night at 7 PM and registered 238 entries. After a little over four hours of play, Vatsalya ‘TooEasy’ Rao grabbed the pole position with a stack of 333,373. Tarun ‘aggtarun’ Goyal was hot on Rao’s heels with 331,492 in chips, while Siddhanth ‘Sidstack’ Kripalani bagged the third most-massive stack of 282,577.
Besides the WPT India Main Event, the 15 Lakhs GTD WPT India Madness also kicked off with its first starting flight, Day 1A. Gathering 210 entries, Day 1A saw only 24 runners making it through to Day 2. Ankit ‘starnaruto’ Saurabh bagged the most massive stack of 340,479 to claim the end-of-day chip lead. ‘manjer24’ accumulated the second-biggest stack of 254,317, while Kamal ‘Kj’’ Joshi rounded out the top three stacks with 241,190 in chips.
The only WPT Trophy of the day was awarded in the ₹15 Lakhs GTD WPT Monday Feature. The ₹3,500 entry buy-in event registered 450 participants, falling ₹60,000 short of its guarantee to become one of the few WPT Trophy events at the series to record an overlay. Utkarsh ‘sam20542’ Srivastava championed the tourney for a personal-best ₹3.67 Lakhs, while online phenom Sagar ‘alwaysnutz’ Choudhury came in second for ₹2.17 Lakhs. Srivastava not only won his first-ever WPT trophy at the event but also improved his MTT scorecard to ₹27.42 Lakhs.
Choudhury also FT-ed PokerBaazi’s The Bout, finishing third for ₹94,500. On Monday, his cumulative score stood at ₹3.12 Lakhs, propelling his lifetime online winnings to ₹4.36 Crores.
The ₹6 Lakhs GTD WPT Table For 6 locked in 306 entrants to generate a guarantee-crushing ₹7.65 Lakhs prize pool. Nitin ‘Bigbluffs’ Arora took down the event for ₹1.91 Lakhs, after agreeing to a heads-up chop with ‘Lokimon’ (runner-up for ₹1.15 Lakhs). ‘Lokimon’ has been the most consistent winner at the series so far with an incredible five title victories, and he is already dominating the WPTOI Mini Leaderboard.
The ₹5 Lakhs GTD WPT Classic has been one of the few tourneys at the WPTOI that has consistently faltered on meeting its guarantee, primarily because of its afternoon start time. On Monday, the event clocked in 282 entries, overlaying ₹1.15 Lakhs. Arun ‘arusharma’ Sharma topped the field for ₹1.28 Lakhs, just as Sandeep ‘pokesand’ Singh placed second for ₹76,250.
PokerBaazi
PokerBaazi’s Monday staple tourney, ₹10 Lakhs GTD The Bout, saw 366 enthusiasts pony up the ₹2,750 entry buy-in, leading to an overlay shortfall of ₹85,000. Online reg Vikranth ‘borntrouble’ Varma came out on top after defeating Siddharth ‘CARDashian66’ Kadel (runner-up for ₹1.47 Lakhs) heads-up.
