The Delhi High Court adjourned the high stakes matter of Gaussian Network Pvt. Ltd. v. Monica Lakhanpal & National Capital Territory of Delhi to 21st April, 2016. The matter came up for hearing after a revision petition was filed by Gaussian Network Pvt. Ltd., the company that operates Adda52.com against the district court’s 2012 opinion which noted that online poker for stakes was illegal.

The matter got immense importance since the judgment will probably decide the fate of the growing online skill games industry in India. But since the counsel for the government was not available, Justice Indermeet Kaur of the Delhi High Court adjourned the matter without passing a conclusive verdict as he felt it was important to understand the cases quoted by the government in its affidavit.

The Delhi government, however, in its affidavit and response to the court has already noted that it is opposed to the game of poker being played online as it has an element of chance factor and does not require the requisite amount of skill. Sandeep Sethi, Senior Advocate appeared for the petitioner while senior counsel Sanjeev Sindhwani appeared for Monica Lakhanpal, one of the respondents.
