With the country’s commercial establishments slowly opening up, live poker is finally getting back to its feet. Casinos in Goa are already back in business. The other legal frontier for live poker action in the country – Sikkim – has also resumed operations and is gearing up for an attractive cash game extravaganza. The Delta Corp operated Casino Deltin Denzong in Gangtok has the High Altitude Poker Festival lined up from December 25 to 30.

Like others in Sikkim and Goa, the casino had closed its doors in mid-March and reopened only on November 18. Keeping the government’s COVID-19 safety guidelines in place, the casino has fitted plexiglass barriers on the poker tables and limited the number of players per table to seven. Security at the poker room has also been beefed up to overlook that guests adhere to the safeguards.

The casino has laid out special incentives for players who put in extra volume, making this a perfect way to bid adieu to 2020!

What to Expect

The NLHE cash games offered will be ₹100/₹200 and ₹200/500 with the table buy-ins starting at ₹25,000, going all the way up to ₹2 Lakhs. Similar games will be on offer for the PLO players as well.

To give players that extra incentive to come out for the fest, the organizers are offering free stay, flights, and airport transfers for players willing to commit to playing at least eight hours per day at the cash game fest.

Talking about the upcoming High Altitude Poker Festival, poker events specialist of the poker room, Nihal Singh said – “Compared to other states, Sikkim has reported very few cases of COVID-19. We’re in a beautiful location, and players can have a great time in the serene and picturesque locale. Since the casino has reopened, it only made sense for us to launch a cash game festival for players.”

Sharing more details about the upcoming fest, Singh added – ““The cash game action is already underway at the poker room, and two tables are currently active. At the time of the festival, we plan to increase the table capacity to 5-6.”

He admitted that with the country reeling under the pandemic, player attendance might not reach the pre-Covid levels, but he confirmed that almost 20 players have already confirmed their attendance.

Singh, who is primarily in-charge of operations at Deltin Denzong poker room, has years of experience managing poker rooms and running poker tournaments. While he had a four-year-long stint with a Bengaluru-based poker room, he has conducted poker events in cities like Pune, Bangalore, Jaipur, and Sikkim. He had also organized the ‘Christmas POKER Party’ cash game fest in Casino Mahjong in 2018.

The Perfect Location

Casino Deltin Denzong housed in Hotel Denzong Regency is one of the oldest properties owned by the casino and hospitality giant, Delta Corp.

The poker room at the venue also played host to the second DPTXpress edition in March 2019.

Sikkim

The casino has a strategic advantage for the fact that it is nestled at the bosom of the Himalayan range with a stunning panoramic view of the third highest peak in the world, Mt. Kanchenjunga. December would be an ideal time to visit the poker room that offers a unique gaming experience at the height of 6,000 feet.
