New Delhi based tournament pro Dhaval Mudgal (cover image) took down the 24K THOS Chip Hop Hustle Main Event on Saturday evening for his third tournament win in Bengaluru this year.

I feel kicked man, got the main event monkey off my back finally.” These words by tournament pro Dhaval Mudgal don`t say much about the heater the pro has been on these past few months. Over the last six months, Dhaval has won the THOS 12K Bounty ‘The Eliminator’ held at AndyzFC, and the 5K Ruby Re-buy event hosted at Rockets Poker Room. Dhaval came within striking distance of the gold in the Rockets 50K Main Event too but missed the title by just one place.

Tournament Recap

31 players took to the felt at Golden Aces Poker Room, Jayanagar for the THOS Chip Hop Hustle 24K ‘The Thrill of Spew’ Main Event on Friday. The game got off to a late start owing to some last minute satellites and after a slow start, Sabyasachi ‘Saby’ Chakraborty was one of the first eliminations in the event.

The 6K ‘The Eminem’ Champion Prasanna Jayappa exited early when he made a move against Neelesh G. Muthu Kumar, Praveen Dwarkanath, Vinod M, Vinay B and Anudeep Srinivas were among the next few to go.

Niranjan NJ, having secured a crucial double-up right before, was the clear chip leader going into the second break, with Dhaval Mudgal a distant second.

Here’s what the notable chip stacks looked like

Niranjan NJ – 91,000
Dhaval Mudgal – 52,000
Amit Chopra – 50,000
Kanishka Samant – 48,000
Aditya Sushant – 45,000
Sanjay Chauudhary – 32,200
Sahil Agarwal – 30,000
Neelesh G – 16,000
Shravan Chhabria – 7,000

After the break, stacks seemed to be shifting a lot as players doubled up through one another.

Sanjay Chauudhary, Rajat Sharma, Hemant Maloo, Anubrato Aich, Jasven Saigal, Manoj R and Krishna M were among the next few to hit the rails as the field narrowed down to form the nine-handed final table.

Leading the star studded final table was Naitik Jain with 98,300 chips and trailing him was Madan Kumar with 84,200 chips.

Final Table Chip Counts

1. Naitik Jain – 98,300
2. Madan Kumar – 84,200
3. Neelesh G – 83,000
4. Sahil Agarwal – 71,500

6. Dhaval Mudgal – 69,300
7. Hari Kumar – 61,600
8. Kanishka Samant – 58,900
9. Amit Chopra – 23,300

Hari ‘Black Rebel’ Kumar’s trip Kings on the turn were no match for Neelesh G’s flopped set of sixes, and he was the first elimination at the final table.

Amit Chopra and Kanishka Samant both doubled up at critical moments in the game to move up in chips. Amit Chopra even looked like he was building momentum, as he eliminated Madan Kumar next.

Sahil Agarwal was the next to go when he went up against Dhaval Mudgal’s pocket 9`s.

The six players agreed to insure the bubble boy, and as if on cue, Naitik Jain was seen exiting the Main Event. His pocket 5`s were no good against Niranjan NJ’s , who clipped a Jack on the river.

Kanishka Samant exited next in 5th place, making a move with , to run into Niranjan NJ’s pocket Jacks. Amit Chopra’s pocket Jacks then succumbed to Neelesh G’s , when he hit the on the river.

Down to heads up, Neelesh G had a daunting lead, and this is how the stacks looked:

Neelesh G – 5,00,000

Dhaval Mudgal, in his inimitable style, scored back-to-back double-ups to completely turn the tables in the competition, taking the lead away from Neelesh and leaving him short. Riding high on momentum, he announced all-in some time later with only to see Neelesh make an instant call with Aces. Just when it looked like the chips would go back, the flop opened , giving Dhaval 2-pairs, and eliminating Neelesh, who received no help on the turn or river. Dhaval took down the pot and the tournament alike – and in what style!
