DPT February 2019: Jai Saha Tops 38 Day 1 Survivors in Adda52 ₹65K High Roller

The first stop of the year for the Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) February edition got underway on February 7 and last night the series-opener ₹15K Deep Dive crowned a winner in WSOP 2018 Tag Team winner Nikita Luther. The floating Casino Deltin Royale played host to two more events yesterday with both events running alongside the final table of the ₹15K Deep Dive, namely, the Adda52 ₹65K High Roller and the ₹35K Main Event.

Day 1 of the Adda52 ₹65K High Roller attracted a total of 86 entries and only 38 entrants advanced to Day 2. Jai Saha (cover image) bagged 354,200 in chips and took over the reins of the overnight chip leader, while NJ Niranjan (219,900) and Ram Kakkar (198,800) were a distant second and third in chips at the end of play. Among the list of survivors was Team PokerGuru Ambassador Jayjit Ray (101,200) who bagged one of the bigger stacks of the day and he had company is another Team PokerGuru Ambassador Tathagata Sengupta (21,300) who managed to scrape his way through Day 2.

Two of the ₹15K Deep Dive NLH finalists, Ankit Kapoor (177,300) and Nikita Luther (87,800), jumped into the ₹65K High Roller with each pro bagging workable stacks for Day 2.

The headline event at the stop, the ₹35K Main Event also hit the floor yesterday as the first of three starting flights registered 91 entries. 30 among them survived the day’s onslaught with M Khan bagging the largest stack of 202,000. Close on his heels are Dhirajkumar Totala (199,000) and Arun Karthik (159,000).

Adda52 ₹65K High Roller – Day 1 Recap

Yet another popular event at the series, the Adda52 ₹65K High Roller began yesterday. The 8-max event allows 1 re-entry, with players starting off with 40,000 in chips. While late registration to the event remains open till Day 2, Day 1 attracted 86 entries and there remains an outside chance that late registrations will expand the field to three figures. Many players who fired only one bullet on Day 1 will get the chance to utilize their second bullet while the late registration period is ongoing on Day 2.

Last year, the High Roller had pulled in 100 entries in the February edition with tournament regular Alok Birewar emerging the champion. The July edition saw a substantial jump in participation with 166 entries joining the action and Eka Vedantham was the last player left standing in the event.

The event saw a healthy 54 entries coming in the very first level of play. Some prominent early birds were Kunal Patni, Minissha Lamba, Meherzad Munsaf, MadOverPoker Team Pro Zarvan Tumboli, Dhaval Mudgal and Deepak Bothra.

By Level 5 the field size had expanded to 76-strong, with 58 players still in the fray. Jai Saha was among the early frontrunners as he scored an early double up through H. Somesh. In preflop action, Somesh raised for 1,000 from under the gun with and a player from the cut-off re-raised to 3,200. Saha made the call on the button. Action folded back to Somesh who moved all in for 47,000 and Saha made the call tabling when the cutoff folded his hand. The board blanked out and Saha doubled up from Somesh.

NJ Niranjan was then seen scooping a big pot in Level 7 where he raised the pot to 1,500 from the cutoff and got looked up by small blind and Akshi Sreenivas in the big blind. It was 3-way on the flop and Sreenivas led out with a bet of 4,000, prompting Niranjan to make the call as the small blind got out of the way. The turn was the and Sreenivas bet 12,000 and got the call. The appeared on the river, on which Sreenivas bet 24,000 and Niranjan moved all in for 120,000. Sreenivas moved in his last 85,000 chips in pot. The cards were turned over and Sreenivas’ lost out to Niranjan’s set.

There were several final table finishers of the ₹15K Deep Dive NLH seen in action in the High Roller. Ankit Kapoor (177,300), who had finished 3rd for ₹2.90 Lakhs in the opening event, currently stands fourth in stacks, even as Nikita Luther (87,800) is also in the hunt. H Somesh (6th for ₹1,55 Lakhs) however, failed to find a bag for Day 2.

The day concluded with Jai Saha (354,200) bagging the overnight chip lead. NJ Niranjan (219,900) and Ram Kakkar (198,800) are the next top stacks. Team PokerGuru Ambassador Jayjit Ray (101,200) is another notable who was among the top 10 stacks at the end of play.

Other notables in the running include Shravan Chhabria (81,000), Ujjwal Narwal (79,300). Harshil Dhingra (69,400), Santhosh Suvarna (63,600), Shashank Jain (59,500), 2018 DPT July edition High Roller winner Eka Vedantham (58,400), Meherzad Munsaf (46,800), Mayank Jaggi (46,700), Dhaval Mudgal (45,900), Kunal Patni (40,900), Zarvan Tumboli (36,100) and Team PokerGuru Ambassador Tathagata Sengupta (21,300).

₹35K Main Event – Day 1A Recap

The star attraction at the stop, the ₹35K Main Event hit the floor yesterday with the first of three starting flights. The deep-structured tournament saw each player starting off with 30,000 in chips and they played out 13 35-minute levels where late registration was open till the end of level 10. The final count on Day 1A of the Main Event came in at 91 entrieswith 30 among them bagging a stack for Day 2.

The Main Event has historically been the most popular and well attended event at the series and expectation are rife on another record-breaking attendance this edition. In the February edition last year, the Main Event had registered 293 entries with Dainik Mehta taking home the title and ₹23.19 Lakhs in prize money. The July edition broke all previous records and just like the High Roller event, the Main Event too saw a substantial spike in numbers as a massive 457 entries were recorded across three starting flights (80 entries from Day 1A, 153 entries from Day 1B and an unprecedented of 225 entries on Day 1C). Topping this huge field last edition was Awnish Singh who banked ₹35.04 Lakhs in the process.

With two more starting flights still left to play out, it remains to be seen how the Main Event fares this time.

Ashraf Ali, once of the finalists in the ₹15K Deep Dive NLH, jumped into the Main Event after hitting the rail in ninth place in the opening event. During level 3, a player in cutoff seat led out for 600 and Rohit Behal called from the button. Ali re-raised from small blind for 2,000. Cutoff folded and Behal moved all-in for 21,000. Ali called to see the runout . Ali tabled to take down the pot with his pocket rocket as Behal turned over . Ali, however, failed to make the cut for Day 2, but with two more starting flights left, Ali and many others who busted out on Day 1A still have another chance to re-enter.

After 13 levels of play, 30 runners made the cut for Day 2 with M Khan (202,000) holding the largest stack. Other notable stacks include Abhishek Goindi (124,000), Maria Kirloskar (92,000), Gautam Sachdeva (86,500), Manoj Pentakota (51,500) and Vivek Rughani (37,000).

Additionally, the Adda52 ₹65K High Roller is also slated to play down to a winner today and is scheduled to resume play at 3pm.
