DPT February 2019: Sriram Maniam & Nikita Luther Lead 108 Players on Day 2 of the ₹35K Main Event

It was an action-packed Saturday at the 2019 Deltin Poker Tournament (DPT) February edition where the remaining two flights of the Main Event took place. Day 1B which kicked off at 4 pm took off with a number of familiar bigwigs in the field. By the time registrations got over, there were 114 entries registered in the event. After a full 13 levels of play, 41 people made it through. The final flight of the event i.e. Day 1C took off a few hours later, at 9 pm.

Day 1B saw World Series of Poker (WSOP) 2018 bracelet winner and the series-opener ₹15K NLH Deep Dive champion Nikita Luther emerging as the top stack with 209,500 in chips. Close behind her were T. Praveen (194,000) and Sajal Gupta (185,500).

The turbo-paced Day 1C saw another 81 entries making a last bid to enter the event. Only 36 among them made it through to Day 2 with Sriram Maniam (213,000) bagging the chip lead.

Several Team PokerGuru Ambassadors were also seen in the hunt at the event. Even as Laksh Pal Singh (41,000) managed to make the cut on Day 1B, Kartik Ved entered Day 1C and climbed up the rankings to end the day with a stack of 162,000.

With the registrations closed, the Main Event at the February edition has registered a total of 286 entries, falling slightly short of last year`s 293 entries. Nonetheless, with 108 survivors still standing (30 players from Day 1A, 41 from Day 1B and 36 from Day 1C), Day 2 promises to deliver an action-packed finale! The action resumes today and leading from the front will be Sriram Maniam who is the overall chip leader among the survivors.

Another name to watch out for is Abhishek Goindi who just hours ago took down the Adda52 ₹65K High Roller for ₹14.50 Lakhs. While Goindi is an old timer with cashes at the India Poker Series (IPS) and PokerGuru Tours dating way back as 2011, his best live cash till date is his runner-up finish at the 2012 Macau Poker Cup HK$11,000 NLHE Red Dragon ($136,245 – ₹96,97,306). Goindi last scored in the 2017 WPT India ₹55K DeepStacks (54^th for ₹55,000) and seems to be in peak form this time around.

In the Main Event, Goindi advanced from Day 1A and with a healthy stack of 124,000, he will be gunning for his second title at the series. Joining Goindi from the ₹65K High Roller final table will be Alok Birewar (7^th for ₹2.45 Lakhs) who has also made it to Day 2 with 46,500 in chips.

Main Event Day 1B & 1C – Recap

The headline event at the 2019 DPT February i.e. the ₹35K Main Event saw its second and third starting flights play out on Saturday. Day 1B kicked off at 2 pm and was followed by Day 1C that started at 9 pm. In all, a total of 286 entries were registered in the event across the three starting flights with 108 among them making it through to Day 2.

While 91 entries were registered on Day 1A, 30 among them advanced further. Participation numbers were higher on Day 1B that saw 114 entrants converge to the field. Only 41 of them found a bag for Day 2 and leading the pack was Nikita Luther who holds 209,500 in chips. Luther was closely followed by T.Praveen (194,000) and Sajal Gupta (185,500). Other top stacks on Day 1B included Ankit Kapoor (123,000), Siddarth Singhvi (108,500) while Sumit Sapra (103,500), Team PokerGuru Ambassador`s Ashish Munot (81,600) & Laksh Pal Singh (41,000) and Rubin Labroo (61,000).

Meanwhile, the third and final starting flight of the Main Event took off at 9 pm on Saturday. With a turbo format, Day 1C attracted a total of 81 entries and only 36 of them made it to Day 2, with Sriram Maniam (213,000) at the forefront.

Other top stacks from Day 1C include Gaurav Kalra (147,000) and 2018 WPT Vietnam Main Event champion Dhaval Mudgal (138,500). Another key member from PokerGuru Staking, Kartik Ved joined the action late and managed to sail through to Day 2 with 162,000 in chips. 2018 WPT India Main Event winner Nikunj Jhunjhunwala and Devesh Thapar were among the various notables seen in action, but both failed to make it to Day 2.

With the three fields combined, it is Maniam who is the overall chip leader heading into Day 2 today with Day 1B chip leader Nikita Luther a close second in chips. Given the number of pros still in the running, the race for the Main Event title is still wide open.
