The EPT 12 Barcelona combined with Estrellas Poker Tour kicked off on Aug 18 for a two-week sojourn of multiple events. The series will play host to a few Indian players this edition, led by Raghav Bansal who takes off on Aug 22.

Bansal is fresh from a marvellous run at the 46th WSOP, having made several cashes, including a ninth place in Event 47 for $39,508.

Joining Bansal at the EPT 12 will be Samay Parikh and Ankit Ahuja, who is part of the PokerStars ensemble.

The series began with the second Neymar Jr Charity Home Game event, where proceeds will go to the Brazilian football star’s Neymar Jr Project Institute to help impoverished children.

Tuesday saw eight events, including satellites playing out. Steve O’Dwyer, who played the charity event, was one of the last players signing in, and emerged the champion, after five and a half hours of play. The €150 buy-in, not only aids charity, but rewarded players with numerous goodies, such as two seats to the Estrellas Main Event, and one EPT Barcelona Main Event seat (worth €5,300), plus Barcelona FC tickets, Neymar Jr signed t-shirts and Skull Candy headphones.

The charity event had 59 entries made up mostly of celebrity pros, Team PokerStars SportStar Fatima Moreira de Melo, Miss Finland and Shark Cage star Sara Chafak and latest Friend of PokerStars Felipe “Mojave” Ramos.

The €1,100 buy-in Estrellas Main Event began on Tuesday with Day 1A that had 592 players signing up. By the end of the day, only 166 survived, with Spain’s Fernando Heredia leading the chip counts with 336,200.

Last year Argentina’s Matias Ruzzi topped a huge 2,560 field to take the Main event title and the prize of €198,550.

Day 1B of the main Event gets underway today.

Russian, Andrey Zhigalov, won Event 6, the €5K Limit Razz 8-Handed, for the Silver Spadie and the top prize of €25,925, after a deal and beating 14 hopefuls, with only the top three cashing. The Norwegian Adam Owen collected a larger prize of €28,395 for his 2nd place finish, thanks to the deal.

The Razz made history as the third-largest one, after the WSOP $10,000 Event held in the years 2015 and 2014, which was won by Phil Hellmuth and George Danzer respectively.

Event 7, €300 Barcelona Cup completed its first entry-flight day with 142 entries, out of which only 21 made it to Day 2, as well as making the money. Spain’s Daniel Del Rio Bronce is the chip leader with 319,000 in chips.

The €1K NL Turbo Event 8 turned out to be a huge one with 209 players creating a €202,730 prize pool. Currently only two players Simon Ravnsbaek and Ami Barer are left to battle it out for the first prize of €44,910.

Event 10, the €2K NL Turbo 8-Handed received 114 entries, leading to a €221,160 prize pool, with the play still open.

Event 11, the €500 NL Hyper Turbo saw almost 200 runners, but more are expected with late registrations continuing.
