The 2018 PokerStars European Poker Tour (EPT) Barcelona €5,300 Main Event was off with a bang as Day 1A registered 598 entries. The EPT Barcelona Main Event held in 2016 had garnered a record 1,785 entries, but that record was smashed yesterday as 1,305 runners joined the fray on Day 1B, taking the total number of entries at this year`s Main Event to a staggering 1,903!

Even though the total prize pool and payouts will be announced at the start of Day 2, the winner of the Main Event will certainly take home an enormous seven-figure payday.

Team India was represented by PokerStars India Team Pro and GPL India Delhi Diehards Manager Muskan Sethi (cover image), Young Gun Abhinav Iyer, Samay Parikh, Charu Vikram Kaushik, Kunal Pinjwani and PokerBaazi Team Pro Abhisek Panda, who were all seen in action among the 1,305 runners on Day 1B. Sethi (51,200), Parikh (51,200), Kaushik (46,600), Iyer (44,000) and Punjwani (32,000) managed to make the cut for Day 2 with respectable stacks, but Panda hit the rail empty-handed.

After ten 60-minute levels, Belgian’s Anthony Chimkovitch (390,000) came out on top as the overall chip lead and will lead the 567 survivors from Day 1B coming into Day 2.

Day 1B Recap

The day started with a number of PokerStars Team Pros in attendance including Jaime Staples, Daniel Negreanu, Jeff Gross, Andre Akkari, Maria Konnikova and India’s very own Muskan Sethi.

While Sethi was off to a bit of a stumbling start when she lost a pot early on to Victor Mateu Parreno, she kept at it and eventually ended the day with a workable stack of 51,200.

Sethi has been quite active on Twitter about her EPT exploits, even sharing a ‘fan-girl’ moment a few days back when she met Daniel Negreanu.

Sethi’s fellow Indians Abhinav Iyer, Samay Parikh, Charu Vikram Kaushik and Abhisek Panda also entered the Main Event through the second starting flight. Parikh bagged a similar stack to Sethi with 51,200, while Kaushik and Iyer bagged 46,600 and 44,000 in chips respectively. Panda however busted out of the event before the day’s play came to a close.
