EPT London: Former World Champion Martin Jacobson Ends Eight-Year Title Drought By Winning UKIPT Main Event For £232,300

The four-day-long 2022 PokerStars EPT London UKIPT Main Event at Hilton Park Lane saw the former World Champion, Swedish pro Martin Jacobson (cover image), coming out on top to win his third official EPT title and £232,300 (~$263,202) in prize money. The 35-year-old poker pro overcame the 1,458-player field (via four starting flights), clinching his fifth live tournament title. British MTT pro Conor Beresford AKA ‘1_conor_b_1’ finished runner-up for £145,120 (~$164,425).

Martin Jacobson won his first EPT title in 2013 when he took down EPT London £2,200 NLHE for £77,780. The following year, he clinched his second EPT title in the EPT Vienna €2,150 Turbo 8 Handed – Grand Final Hybrid for €28,190.

The recent win is his first recorded live victory in over eight years. He had last won the 2014 WSOP Main Event for $10 Million. According to his Hendon Mob profile, Jacobson has $17,443,491 in live tournament earnings and is ranked #1 on Sweden’s all-time money list.

Speaking about his EPT wins, Jacobson said, “That was a big win back then as I had kept getting second and third before then, so actually winning a tournament was very nice.”

Jacobson had his wife and in-laws railing him throughout the final day. He added, “That always feels nice to win in front of them. Home field (advantage).”

The £1,100 UKIPT Main Event brought 1,458 entrants over four starting flights, collecting a very generous £1,399,680 in the prize pool. The top 218 places were assured at least £1,620.

Notables to cross the money line included WSOP bracelet winners Roberto Romanello (33rd for £4,300), Jack Sinclair (55th for £3,740), Harry Lodge (64th for £3,250), Gianluca Speranza (69th for £3,250), Lawrence Brandt (78th for £2,830), Carl Shaw (169th for £1,860), and PokerStars Team Pro Benjamin Spragg (139th for £2,140).

Martin Jacobson returned on Day 3 as the shortest stack but managed to recover, thanks to pocket aces which helped him to survive the day and proceed to the finale. He came into the final day as the third biggest stack among six players and eliminated three of his last five opponents to get the title hump out of the way.

On the final hand of the tournament, with the board open , Conor Beresford moved all-in with and Jacobson called with for a turned set of aces. The on the river did it for Jacobson, getting him the UKIPT Main Event title.
