The €1,100 France Poker Series (FPS) Paris Main Event at the 2023 EPT Paris was one of the most sought-after tournaments of the series. After four days of intense play, Frenchman Alan Goasdoue emerged as the champion. Goasdoue topped a record-breaking field of 2,071 players across three starting flights, making it the largest-ever FPS event. His victory earned him his first-ever live title and a career-high payout of €287,830.

Despite being only 23 years old, Goasdoue has been a professional poker player for five months. He has been playing in poker tournaments since 2019 and had amassed $39,562 in live earnings before his Main Event win.

“I’m pretty calm right now,” Goasdoue said in a winner’s interview. “Everything has been going well for me since the beginning of the tournament and I’ve always managed to survive with double-up when I was dominated. Even though I came into today’s final with the last stack, I stayed focused. I figured out how my heads-up opponent was playing and I was also lucky to win.”

“My goal was to play more live events in the future,” said Goasdoue. “I’ve known for a long time that I’m capable of a big performance. Now I’ve ticked the box, as they say! I said at the beginning of the tournament that I was going to put one bullet the FPS and win, then one bullet in the EPT (Main Event) and win. So I’m halfway there!”

The €1,100 buy-in Main Event drew a record-breaking field of 2,071 entries, leading to a massive prize pool of €1,988,160. The top 304 players could cash in and receive at least €855 for their efforts.

It is worth noting that the playing field could have been even larger, but the Hyatt Regency Paris Etoile, where the event was held, could not accommodate more participants due to its limited space, narrow hallways, and registration process. PokerStars acknowledged the inconvenience and released a statement apologizing for “the subpar experience some of you have had at EPT Paris.”

Final Table Recap

Towards the end of Day 3, Alexis Lucarini was the first final table elimination, walking out in ninth place, courtesy of Jean Labryga. And Vasyl Zabrodskyy left in eighth place after his pocket sixes cracked against Labryga’s ace-jack.

On Day 4, seven players returned to the table, and Labryga, the Day 1 chip leader, held the biggest stack. In the first level of play, Labryga went all-in on the flop with just ace-high against Thibault Reverdito’s top pair, but a lucky runner-runner straight sent Reverdito packing in seventh place.

As the game progressed, Oleksii Natoptanyi and Christopher Dowling were eliminated in sixth and fifth places, respectively.

Labryga had a significant lead when he received aces, putting him far ahead of Roger Taieb’s nines. Despite Taieb’s playful teasing of Labryga throughout the final table, he was eliminated in fourth place.

Goasdoue, who had been quiet for most of the game, made a big move with pocket nines and called Elias Fisz’s ace-eight shove, ultimately knocking him out of the game in third place.

This set up an exciting French heads-up battle between Jean-Luc Labryga and Goasdoue, who were, respectively, the oldest and youngest players at the final table. They began the heads-up match with nearly even chip stacks, but Goasdoue quickly took the lead by making several good hands, including two full houses.

Labryga found himself with a short stack and decided to make a move by open-jamming on the button with . Unfortunately for him, Goasdoue had and decided to call.

The dealer fanned the board , and Goasdoue’s nines held up, and he emerged victorious.
