It’s that time of the year again when the World Series of Poker (WSOP) recognizes the most significant contributors from the poker community and felicitates them through nominations for induction into the prestigious Poker Hall of Fame (PHoF).

The open-nomination process for the 2022 PHoF Class has begun, and poker lovers from across the globe can submit the name of their nominee by logging onto WSOP.com till June 19 (each person is eligible to cast only one vote).

Speaking on the commencement of the nomination process, WSOP executive director Ty Stewart said, “We are excited to add a new member to poker’s most exclusive fraternity. The Poker Hall of Fame provides a chance for idols to become icons, and we appreciate the poker community’s input in nominating a worthy list to present to its voting members.”

The eligibility criteria for induction into the Poker Hall of Fame are as follows:

– The player must be a minimum of 40 years old at the time of nomination

– The player must have played poker against acknowledged top competition

– The player must have played high stakes poker

– The player must have played consistently well and gained the respect of their peers

– The player must have stood the test of time

– Or, for non-players, contributed to the overall growth and success of the game of poker, with indelible positive and lasting results.

Once the submissions are tabulated, the top 10 recommendations will be forwarded to the 32 living Hall of Famers to decide this year’s PHoF inductee.

Nomination Process Sparks Speculations About This Year`s Inductee

Like each year, the commencement of the nomination process has sparked speculations about the probable nominees! The two names touted to be top contenders to get into the PHoF this year are both non-poker players – Isai Scheinberg and Matt Savage.

While other big names like Mike Matusow are also in contention, many other poker players have become eligible for induction into the PHoF – namely, Brian Rast, Anthony Zinno, and Steve O’Dwyer – all of whom turned 40 recently.

Two players were inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame each year from 2005 through 2019, but WSOP switched things up in 2020, and like the last two years, only one person will be inducted into the PHoF this year – something many in the poker community have been vocally opposed.

The official induction ceremony will take place on July 10 and, for the first time in 43 years, will be held at the Bally’s Las Vegas.
