Outlasting a record field of 7,584 players, Romanian pro from Birmingham –Florian Duta (cover image) won the 2018 Grosvenor UK Poker Tour (GUKPT) Goliath for a whopping £101,450.
This was Duta’s second win this month, his first coming through in the $1,600 No-Limit Hold’em Championship at the 2018 Wynn Summer Classic in Las Vegas where he picked his career-best score of $429,161. At the 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP), Duta pulled in six cashes that includes a 12th place finish in the $3,000 NLHE 6-Handed event. With this victory, he is now placed sixth on Romania’s All-Time Money List with $1,248,636 in career winnings.
With a buy-in of £125, the event guaranteed the champion at least £100,000 and in terms of participation, the event broke its own previous records for the largest poker tournament outside of Las Vegas. A total of 747 players took home a minimum assured £150, with each of the nine players at the final table securing £10,000.
Only 39 hopefuls returned to Day 3 with an eye on the title.

Duta was one of the most seasoned players on the final table.
Joseph Stoyles was the first oneout in ninth place with Gordon Paterson following him to the rail in eighth place.
Not long thereafter, Ioana Belet and Craig Marnier were eliminated in seventh and sixth place respectively, while Ricky Read fell in fifth place.
Bogdan Bolboceanu saw his deep run end in fourth place and Mariusz Czech was the next to crash, in third place.
Duta, who had faced some pressure early on, entered the heads-up play with Warwick Brindley and won the title fairly quickly. On just the third hand of the heads-up match, Duta moved all-in from the button and a short-stacked Brindley called, and found himself ahead with against Duta’s . Brindley however lost the advantage as the appeared on the river, giving Duta a winning pair along with the title!
