Partypoker has been successful in orchestrating a great coup by having a legend like Ken Daneyko (cover image) associate with them. Partypoker was able to break the glass ceiling by becoming a pioneer to establish a partnership between a US sports franchise and the online gambling industry. They struck a sponsorship deal with the New Jersey Devils, a professional hockey team based in Newark, New Jersey that competes in the National Hockey League (NHL).

Having Daneyko on board in a way is taking that sponsorship forward as Ukranian-origin Daneyko has played his entire career (1983-2003) at the defence line-up of the New Jersey Devils. The former ice hockey player is not new to poker; he has been an ardent follower of the game and a regular visitor at Atlanta City’s casino games. Daneyko can certainly hold his own on the felt, and even won the WPT Borgata Spring Open $230 Deepstack in April.

The 50-year-old made his maiden appearance as a member of Team Partypoker at New Jersey’s $200 buy-in Main Event of the Garden State Super Series (GSSS) yesterday.

Apart from getting an opportunity to play the game and popularize it, Daneyko has publicly expressed his excitement at the prospect of working with well-known names like Kara Scott and the ‘ambassador of poker’ Mike Sexton.

Team partypoker too seems happy to have Daneyko onboard and welcomed him with open arms. Daneyko has always been described as a fierce competitor on the ice, but captain Sexton found Daneyko to be even fiercer at the poker table.

Daneyko too is finding the going exciting and is putting up all updates from partypoker on his twitter handle (@KenDaneykoMSG).

Sexton was not wrong when he predicted that Daneyko would be a great ambassador of online poker in New Jersey. Daneyo who has a following of 19,900 on his twitter handle, instantly connected with New Jersey fans, since he has played for a side that is the only professional sports team that can be branded as a New Jersey franchise.

It seems like a great journey awaits Daneyko with partypoker.
