The busy cricket season officially sets in today with the start of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In the lead-up to this cash-rich league, we have witnessed a plethora of sports personalities and even Bollywood celebrities announcing tie-ups with fantasy sports portals. Spin King Harbhajan Singh and up-and-coming batsman Prithvi Shaw join the ever-growing list of cricket personalities to endorse fantasy sports platforms.
The Turbanator, aka Harbhajan Singh, who is also a brand ambassador of Rummy Culture, has been roped in by Fan2Play to spearhead their #letpanga’ campaign. The right-handed opening batsman Prithvi Shaw has been signed in by the fast-growing fantasy sports portal SportzXchange.
Indian Spinner Harbhajan Singh Joins Fan2Play as Brand Ambassador
On Thursday, the fantasy sports platform Fan2Play announced its association with former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh as a brand ambassador. Singh had recently joined the online rummy platform Rummy Culture and headlined their “Champions” campaign that included other sports personalities like Mahesh Bhupathi, Abhinav Bindra, and Pankaj Advani.
To kick off the association, Fan2Play has announced a new campaign, #letspanga’, a unique way of playing Fantasy Sports where fantasy users create their team/s and challenge each other. Singh has been announced as the lead face of this campaign.
Unlike other platforms that require an 11-player team to play Fantasy sports, Fan2Play users can create their teams with just 2/3/4 players. The best part is that there is no player and credit limitation either. To make it more relevant to the upcoming IPL season, the users can select the players they think will do well and start challenging each other to win money.
The app also has the classic 11- player fantasy mode for those who love the regular Fantasy Games. Users can also create challenges visible to other users who can accept them for a fair and transparent match.
Singh, a specialist spin bowler, has the second-highest number of Test wickets by an off-spinner behind Sri Lanka’s Muttiah Muralitharan. He started off his IPL career with the Mumbai Indians and even captained the side. He was the first Mumbai Indians captain to lift the IPL trophy in 2013 and subsequently parted ways with the team in 2017. He played with the Chennai Super Kings from 2018 to 2020 and will be representing the two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders in the 2021 season.
Commenting on Singh joining the brand, the Co-Founder and VP- Operations of Fan2Play, Shashi Kumar, said, “Our main goal is to revolutionize the fantasy gaming industry in India, and Harbhajan Singh was convinced of our vision from the word go. We believe a player like Harbhajan is the right face for our #LetsPanga campaign because of his approach to tackling opponents on the field or navigating resentment on social media. He has always been a spirited Pangebaaz in his own rights. We are excited to have him on board and look forward to his association with Fan2Play.”
Singh also shared his excitement on representing the fantasy sports portal, saying, “In India, cricket is more than just a sport, and fantasy gaming platforms help fans engage with the game in a more interactive format. With IPL approaching, this is the golden period for any fantasy platform to make its mark. I am very excited to partner with Fan2Play and be a part of this journey. Their new campaign #letspanga has excellent strategies and new rules for its users that will help build excitement for the game this season.”
SportzXchange Ropes in Prithvi Shaw as Brand Ambassador
One of the fastest-growing fantasy sports portals in India, SportzXchange, has onboarded promising young talent, Prithvi Shaw, as its brand ambassador.
The online gaming app was initially launched as a beta version with free-to-play contests but is now gearing up to release its full version for fantasy cricket during the IPL 2021 season. The app offers the classic version of fantasy cricket – Team Fantasy and an Xtra version of fantasy cricket – 3X Fantasy with a 3X feature like no other. As opposed to its contemporaries, SportzXchange allows its users to choose their favorite player(s) thrice while making their team within an allocated budget of game credits.
Just like the company, its brand ambassador is also a relative newcomer. Still, the 21-year-old has already made quite a name for himself. A former India U-19 captain, Shaw made his first international appearance on October 4, 2018, and became the second-youngest Indian after Sachin Tendulkar to make a Test century and the youngest Indian to do so on his Test debut. Shaw was bought by the Delhi Daredevils in the 2018 IPL auction for ₹ 1.2 Crores. On April 23, 2018, he became the youngest player to open the innings for a team in IPL history at the age of 18 and 165 days.
Talking about the brand’s association with Shaw, Hari Narayan, Founder, and CEO of SportzXchange, said, “We welcome Prithvi Shaw on board for an exciting journey with SportzXchange. We have always believed in India’s youth, their limitless energy, and vast potential to perform under challenging situations. At SportzXchange, our approach has always been the same; energetic with a youthful spirit. We believe Prithvi personifies SportzXchange, in its essence. His tenacity to go after goals, unwavering effort, and promising potential, all of it resonates with SportzXchange and its long-term vision of becoming a leader in the eSports category in India.”
“I am very happy to be associated with the fantasy sports element of cricket through SportzXchange. The platform has many ‘Xtra’ features, making the game even more interesting, and I think players on SportzXchange will enjoy the differentiated experience. Fantasy sports is in an exciting phase in the country and am looking forward to my journey with SportzXchange,” said Shaw on his association with SportzXchange.
