440 players braved a typical rainy Monday in London to participate in Day 1b of the EPT £4,250 Main Event, marking this as one of the largest EPT Main events, since 2011. No doubt, the reduced buy in, from 5,000 to 4,250 has certainly contributed to the crowds coming in.
Team Mentor Aditya ‘Intervention’ Agarwal was one of the Indians playing and he made it to Day 2, though after a hard fight. Intervention tweeted about his struggle stating, “Played day 1b of EPT london, ended with 14,800 going to 400-800(100) tomorrow, from 30k starting stack.”
The other Indian`s who sailed through the opening flight`s include Rohit Mariwalla (78,000), Arvin Ravindran (35,000) and Pratik Ghatge (50,000).
Georgios Zisimopoulos (cover image) of Greece leads the chip counts with 171,500 at the end of Day 1b. Leo Nordin with 169,125 and Nicolas Chouity with 152,700 were following at 2nd and 3rd place respectively.
The relatively unknown Zisimopoulos achieved fame this day, as he rushed to take the lead towards the end of the day, from Nordin, besides playing at the same table as WGM Jennifer Shahade.
The day was good for Team PokerStars, as all the members made it through the 8 levels. Former EPT San Remo Liv Boeree, Two-time EPT winner Victoria Coren Mitchell, Bertrand Grospellier, Marc-Andre Ladouceur, Mickey Petersen, Mikhail Shalamov, PokerStars’ Mind Sport Ambassador Jennifer Shahade and Theo Jorgensen all made it to Day 2.
Team PokerStars Pro Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier intuitively tweeted before the start of the day, “feeling good about this one, for some reason” Well, his gut feeling sure came true, as he finished the day with 147,900.
Daniel Colman, the man, currently holding the Midas touch joined late and made enough to get to return tomorrow.
Leo McClean, the “Cinderella Man” who pocketed a cool half a million, on the back of just an £82 qualifier last year, is in the fray again this time and will return on Day 2, after managing to make 48,500.
Not all were so lucky though and almost 200 odd players were eliminated.
Olivier Busquet, who had just won £107,000 the night before at the £2,000 UKIPT High Roller Event found himself on the rails and was busted after dinner break.
Many others did not make it and these included Dave “Devilfish” Ulliott, David Peters, Ludovic Geilich, Griffin Benger, Phillipp Gruissem, Tom Middleton, Martin Finger, Antonio Buonanno, Bryn Kenney, Vladimir Troyanovskiy and Salvatore Bonavena.
Survivors will return for Day 2 today at noon, for six 75-minute levels of play, without any dinner break expected.
