The GGPoker edition of the World Series of Poker (WSOP) $10,000 NLHE World Championship, popularly known as the WSOP Main Event, has gone one step closer to crowning a champion!
Day 2 of the event saw 179 qualifying stacks from the three starting flights converge for a shot at making it to the FT. It took 10 hours of play before the nine-handed final table was formed, with Brazil’s Brunno Botteon (cover image) bagging the chip lead.
With an all international line-up, the FT will see players flying in from nine different countries to play down to a winner at the King’s Casino and Resort in Rozvadov on December 15.
Botteon, who has more than $1.1 Million in WSOP cashes, had come closest to clinching a bracelet in the 2020 WSOP Online Event #79: People’s Choice Event (Most Popular), where he placed runner-up for $622,300. He made a late spin-up on the final table bubble yesterday and will enter the FT with a massive 10,317,743 in chips.
Trailing Botteon from a distance are Portugal’s poker phenom Manuel “robocup” Ruivo (6,213,759) and Damian Salas (5,653,528).
While the FT has representation from different countries, Damian Salas (5,653,528) is the only player on the FT to have final tabled a WSOP Main Event before. Salas had, in 2017, placed seventh in the Main Event for $1.425 Million.

Day 2 Recap
Day 2 began at 6 PM GMT on December 7, with 179 qualifiers (Day 1A – 62, Day 1B – 42, Day 1C – 75) starting things off. Play went on at a brisk pace, narrowing the field rapidly.
The final 80 places were paid a share from the $6,470,400 prize pool, with a min-cash worth $15,277.
Some notables who couldn’t make it past the bubble included Georgios Sotiropoulos, Simon Lofberg, Barak “LuckySecret” Wisbrod, Alex Papazian, and Jonas Lauck.
The money bubble didn’t even need a showdown since China’s Zhiao “KingChips” He who was sitting out, became the last player to bust empty-handed.
Play continued at a furious pace after that, witnessing numerous three-way all-ins. Within the next hour, the field had whittled down to the final five tables.
Numerous poker pros cashed the tourney. This included Norwegian poker pro Preben Stokkan (23rd for $30,404), Day 1A chip leader Julian “VWgunther” Menhardt (24th for $30,404), Day 1B chip leader Blaz Zerjav (30th for $30,404), former WSOP champion Toby “shinerrr” Joyce (32nd for $26,507), Simon “Fireburns” Burns (35th for $22,876), Joakim Andersson (37th for $22,876), Sergio Aido (41st for $22,876) and Indian-origin player Ronit “Songjoy” Chamani (80th for $15,277).
The final table bubble lasted nearly two-and-half hours. Wrapping up the day`s play was the elimination of the Day 1C chip leader Senthuran “Prodigal Sen” Vijayaratnam (11th for $50,131) and Thomas “ggmbn” Macdonald (10th for $50,131). They were eliminated within 30 minutes of one another to set the final table.
Each of the finalists is assured at least $75,360, but there`s a big fat $1,500,969 awaiting the winner. The ultimate winner also qualifies to play heads-up finale with the WSOP.com Main Event champion on December 30 in Las Vegas for the bragging rights of becoming the 51st WSOP World Champion and an additional $1 Million!
