Goa is back in the news and this time, the Captain of Ports (CoP) Department has finalized the Panjim jetty for Maharajah Casino (M V San Domino), which has been leased to politician Gopal Kanda-owned Golden Globe Hotels Pvt Ltd (GGHPL) for a year to start casino operations in Goa. The company is gearing up to commence its operations in February.

The vessel has three floors dedicated to casino operations and has been anchored on River Mandovi for the last nine years (since February 2009) now without a casino license.

GGHPL’s license to operate offshore casinos had long expired and was finally renewed after the company paid ₹46 crores as fines in October 2016. The company will utilize its license for the MV San Domino vessel until their own vessel is repaired.

GGHPL first filed an application with the Bombay High Court in December to allot a jetty to operate feeder boats for MV San Domino as its MV Lucky Seven vessel ran into controversies after getting stuck at a sandbar in Miramar beach for which it had to undergo repairs.

MV Lucky Seven Returns to Goa

There was a major development for casino vessel ‘MV Lucky Seven’ too as it has just been granted permission by Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) to anchor at berth no 9 for a period of 45 days in order to get the remaining internal repair work completed.

After intensive repairs at the Cochin dry dock, the vessel is finally back to Goa and is now anchored at MPT.

Deputy conservator of MPT, Captain Manoj Joshi stated that that the vessel will remain anchored for minor repair work, survey and other necessary formalities.
