The Phil Galfond vs. Ioannis ‘ActionFreak’ Kontonatsios challenge played out three more sessions this week. Even though Galfond booked a loss in the first session, massive six-figure profits the last two times that they have played have put him in a commanding lead of €450,653.08 as the challenge enters the home stretch with just 3,250 hands of the 15,000-hand challenge left to unfold.
There was a major incident that recently took place in Colorado, where NFL footballer Cody Latimer fired shots during a poker home game. Latimer apparently got into a drunken argument but was arrested before anyone was injured.
The ongoing $150/$300 PLO Heads-Up Challenge between Run It Once (RIO) Poker’s Phil Galfond and iconic online pro Ioannis ‘ActionFreak’ Kontonatsios added another 2,268 hands over three sessions since our last update on May 19. And things are looking somewhat one-sided at the moment.
With almost 80% of the challenge now over, Galfond is in the lead for €450,653.08 – a significant margin even for the high stakes that they are playing at.
As last reported, Galfond was leading for €164,478.21 after 13 sessions of play. ‘ActionFreak’ came back strong on Day 14, where he won €61,136.84 after 740 hands, to bring his deficit down to almost five-figures.
Just when a comeback started to look like a real possibility, Galfond broke ahead, crushing ‘ActionFreak’ for six-figure profits in the next two sessions. Over 778 hands that were played on Day 15, Galfond won €165,400, strengthening his advantage by €268,741.37!
RIO Poker even tweeted the update.

Day 17 of the challenge is to play out today. The question is, will ‘ActionFreak’ be able to replicate Galfond`s comeback from the first challenge, or will this be another victory for the Run it Once Founder? Either way, we will find out soon.
A home poker game at a Colorado apartment last weekend went seriously wrong when American footballer Cody Latimer got into an altercation with another player and began shooting in a drunken rage. The Washington Redskins wide receiver threatened to “kill everybody.”
Latimer was pinned down and gave up his gun before the police were called in and arrested the footballer.
The apartment belonged to Latimer’s close friend Roderick English, but in his filing to the court, Latimer claimed that someone who had sexually assaulted his four-year-old son was also present at the poker game.
Evidently, English kicked Latimer out of the apartment, but the latter returned with a gun. Blaming English for the confrontation, he even said he’d saved two bullets for English and his girlfriend Madi Shal. Latimer fired two shots near English, who then cornered him.
While the police are yet to verify Latimer’s claim, he has been charged with felony assault and other charges. He was released after posting a $25,000 bond.
The NFL footballer had played his first four seasons with the Denver Broncos and the next two with the New York Giants before signing up with Washington Redskins earlier this year.
