Yes, you read that right! The Galfond Challenge is back after a six-month hiatus. The Run It Once Poker co-founder Phil Galfond has found his fourth challenger in Brandon Adams. However, unlike the previous three challenges, this one is being played live at the refurbished Resorts World Las Vegas Casino.

And unlike the previous Galfond Challenges, the current one is time-bound with no set hand-target to chase. To cut it short, Galfond and Adams have agreed to play $100/$200 Pot-Limit Omaha with a $20,000 starting stack. The entire match will be played live at the Resorts World Casino from July 26 to 30. The duo will play for 40 hours over five days, rounding up to an average of eight hours daily.

And like the past challenges, there is a side bet involved. Galfond has $150,000 on the line to Adams’ $100,000 on the outcome.

According to the terms of the match, if Adams wins the challenge, the two pros commence a re-match but in a ‘battleship’ format. This will be a hybrid live/online setup in which both players would be sitting across from each other in person but playing online on their laptops.

Day 1 Recap

The three-time WSOP bracelet winner Galfond kept the poker Twitterati informed about the start of the challenge.

Galfond even joked how his wife, Farah Galfond, had asked him to start his fourth challenge on a winning note. But staying true to past trends, Galfond found himself again on the backfoot after Day 1 of the heads-up challenge. However, he isn’t trailing Adams by much, just $16,000, which is less than one buy-in.

Adams had said that he would be live-streaming their sessions on his Instagram handle, and sure enough, the live stream is available for all to see. But being slightly technically challenged, Adams basically live-streamed about an hour of Galfond playing. But hey, Phil’s a good-looking man. If you’d like to stare at him, go ahead and give the live stream a watch!

Galfond Gives Away RIO Subscriptions to Resorts World Visitors

Galfond is known by many to be the “nice guy” of the poker circuit. In that vein, the poker coach offered a free month of RIO subscription for anyone who plays even a single hand at the Resorts World’s poker room.

Given that Resorts World is hosting the challenge during an ongoing pandemic, this was a great gesture by the poker pro to show his appreciation for the venue.

Galfond on a Heater

Just like Phil Hellmuth, Galfond has been on a heater, having won all three of his past heads-up challenges.

His first heads-up challenge was against the online beast ‘VeniVedi1993’. The challenge lasted for three months. The start was terrible for Galfond, who at one point looked all but buried. However, he made an incredible comeback to come out €1,472.08 ahead of his opponent after playing the required 25,000 hands in the challenge and also won the €100,000 side bet.

Galfond’s next competitor was Ioannis ‘ActionFreak’ Kontonatsios. Here too, Galfond was trailing the online phenom from the start, but made a turnout and ended up coming out ahead with a profit of €114,803. Along with these winnings, Galfond pocketed an additional €150,000 from the even-money side bet.

The third challenge was a battle of the poker coaches, as Galfond squared off against Chance Kornuth. The duo started off the challenge in September last year, and after playing 25,000 hands, the latter conceded the challenge on January 24.

In between, Galfond managed to win two mini-challenges against ‘AmSoGood’ and Dan ‘Jungleman’ Cates.

Galfond also started a challenge against Bill Perkins, but that hasn’t gone past a couple of sessions.
