Phil Galfond’s remarkable €900K+ comeback against ‘VeniVidi1993’ in the first of several PLO Heads-up Challenges the Run It Once Poker founder has lined up was legendary. Clearly, the Galfond Challenge`s are getting all the attention during the lockdown; and Galfond has been playing his part to the tee. In fact, even while his match against VeniVidi was nearing the home stretch, Galfond took on a single-session mini Galfond Challenge against ‘AmSoGood.’

After winning his first challenge, Galfond wasted almost no time in moving on to his second challenger, the high-stakes playing entrepreneur Bill Perkins. While the match saw only two sessions playing out (so far), Galfond got his third challenge against the formidable ‘ActionFreak’ going! Four sessions later, Galfond has gained a massive €416,442.58 lead over his opponent, booking six-figure profits the last two times they have played.

Now that Galfond seems to have found his winning groove, he has announced a mini Galfond Challenge for next week! His challenger, you ask?! It’s none other than the enigmatic poker superstar Dan ‘Jungleman’ Cates himself!

While Galfond clearly seems to be enjoying doing what he does best, that is crushing the high stakes PLO games; Mike Postle, on the other hand, has more legal mess to overcome. Postle, who is fighting cheating allegations in Federal Court, had two fresh motions filed again him earlier this week. While the first one was to oppose Postle`s dismissal motion, in the second, the plaintiffs have demanded that sanctions be placed against Postle, charging him with using a ghostwriter to file his motion to dismiss the case!

Phil Galfond Takes €416,442.58 Lead Over ‘ActionFreak,’ HU With Jungleman Starts Next Wednesday

Phil Galfond’s second heads-up challenge against Thirst Lounge’s Bill Perkins may have completed only two sessions. Still, Galfond didn’t wait around and swiftly moved to his next challenger, ‘ActionFreak,’ widely regarded as one of the toughest opponents that Galfond has lined up.

Phil Galfond

The duo is to play 15,000 hands of €150/€300 PLO, and the first of their sessions began on April 27. Just four sessions into the action and Galfond has already taken over a massive €416,442.58 profit!

It didn’t start this way though. ‘ActionFreak’ had taken an early lead of €11,162.32 in the first session that had to be cut short after only 145 hands, due to connectivity issues. Though Galfond recovered some of his losses on Day 2, ‘ActionFreak’ still led the charge. After 1,017 hands, ‘ActionFreak’ was in the green for €7,529.49.

But it was on Day 3 when Galfond really turned things around. The duo played 844 hands, and Galfond scooped several big pots to eventually end this day with a massive six-figure profit of €310,594.59. Having a tough time by now, ‘ActionFreak’ managed to pull back somewhat on Day 4, which played out on Friday. A back-and-forth saw Galfond retake the lead, and eventually, ‘ActionFreak’ called it a day only after 665 hands. By then, Galfond had taken another €113,377 off his anonymous opponent!

RIO Poker tweeted the update.

There is an even money side bet of €150,000 riding on the outcome of this match. Even though Galfond looks like an overwhelming favorite right now, the duo has completed only 2,671 hands of their challenge. 82.2% of the match still remains, so the tide could very well turn, as we have seen in the first challenge.

As Galfond celebrated his Day 4 winning session that happened to be his wife, Sarah Galfond’s birthday, he also announced details of the mini Heads-Up Challenge against Dan ‘Jungleman’ Cates. The two are supposed to play 7,500 hands of PLO on 1-to-1 odds, and guess what?! The action starts next Wednesday.

And the takeaway, well, there is more than money involved in this one? The winner takes the money, but the loser will have to post a video explaining why the other is a better poker player and a better man!! We just can’t wait for this one!

Two Fresh Motions Filed Against Mike Postle

Former dealer and cash game expert Mike Postle has been slam-dunked in controversy since last September. Charged of cheating during the live-streamed cash games at Stones Gambling Hall by casino’s former commentator, Veronica Brill, and 24 others, the matter has since reached court.

Mike Postle

On March 24, Postle had filed a motion seeking dismissal of the charges against him in the $10 Million civil lawsuit, objecting to the increase in the number of plaintiffs to 88. Postle’s submission to the court got leaked and was posted at the Rounder Life Magazine. While some wondered if it was Postle himself who leaked the documents, Postle’s legal woes have only worsened since.

On April 28, the plaintiffs filed two fresh motions against Postle at the California district court. In the first, which is an Opposition Motion, the plaintiffs have opposed Postle’s motion for dismissal of the case.

The second filing, a Motion for Sanctions, charges that even though Postle is representing his own case in the court, he had used legal documents written by someone else. Referring to Rule 11 of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedures, the filing reads, “Unfortunately, it now appears his approach to this litigation is identical, as he purports to be a pro se litigant but is, in fact, having his court papers ghostwritten by one or more unidentified attorneys.”

The filing has also compared Postle’s motion of dismissal to a similar filing by William Portanova, who had claimed to be Postle’s lawyer in October 2019 but later retracted his statements.

Calling it a serious ethical breach, the plaintiffs have asked that sanctions be placed against Postle, seeking that he should be instructed to file his own work or name the attorney correctly in court if he happens to be employing anyone.

The court is yet to take a decision on the latest motions filed, but if Postle was assuming that getting the case against him dismissed would be easy, he certainly stands corrected.
