Run It Once (RIO) Poker founder Phil Galfond (cover image) is fast approaching the break-even point in his ongoing €100-200 PLO Heads-Up Challenge against ‘VeniVidi1993’! This may not sound too encouraging for some of you Galfond fans out there not following the high-stakes battle closely, but just to recap, Galfond was stuck a whopping €900,240 after the first 15 sessions of the challenge; making this winning streak a phenomenal comeback by the PLO legend.

The prolonged losing streak had forced Galfond to take a long three-week break, and ever since resuming the challenge, he has been unstoppable. Two more sessions have played out since our last update on the challenge that had Galfond starting out in the red for €233,624.12. He lost €26,992 to ‘VeniVidi1993’ on Day 30 but recouped all of those losses and more in the next session. This was Day 31 of the challenge, and Galfond booked a profit of €106,328 after playing 393 hands. He is currently down €154,287, with 5,637 hands left to play.

Watch the Day 31 action below.

That’s not all! An upbeat Galfond is clearly itching for more action and since ‘VeniVidi1993’ wanted a few days off, the former took the opportunity to throw open a Mini Galfond Challenge at stakes of 100/200/ or 200/400 on PokerStars. From what we hear, the first of these ‘mini’ challenges gets rolling tonight, with Galfond set to play 800 hands of $200/400 PLO against ‘AmSoGood.’

Galfond’s tweet on the mini-challenge got a lot of reactions, with people wondering why Galfond wanted to play on PokerStars instead of his own site. Indian-origin pro Amit Makhija pointed out that playing at RIO Poker at such high stakes wasn`t likely to get many takers.

Galfond agreed, on which Camkite suggested they could play on partypoker.

Not long after tweet, Galfond confirmed the first Mini Galfond Challenge.

And the player who will be taking on Galfond is ‘AmSoGood.’ The player is a high-stakes PLO reg from Canada. The duo will play 800 hands of $200/$400 PLO at PokerStars. Unlike Galfond’s match with ‘VeniVidi1993,’ there is no side bet on this one. From the player’s response, it looks like he’s ready for the battle!

Unfortunately, Galfond has confirmed that the Mini Challenge will not be streamed by Run It Once Poker, though we can reasonably expect someone from the community to post the juicy highlights of the duel!
