Nearly a month ago, it had seemed like three-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Galfond was ready to throw in the towel when he had suspended his Heads-Up Challenge against online phenom ‘VeniVidi1993’. But as they say, it’s not over till the fat lady sings! And sure enough, it’s not over for Galfond yet.

The Run It Once founder was stuck in a losing spree in his heads-up challenge against the anonymous online beast, and over 15 sessions, Galfond dropped almost €900,000 to his opponent. After taking a nearly month-long break, Galfond resumed the challenge on March 4, and it couldn’t have gone better for the PLO legend.

Phil Galfond Resumes Heads-Up Challenge Against ‘VeniVidi1993’

Playing €100/€200 PLO heads-up, Galfond had gone down quite a bender, losing almost €900,000 to ‘VeniVidi1993’ in the 9,927 hands that they played across the first 15 sessions. Reeling from the series of losses, in early February, Galfond decided to suspend the challenge.

As per the terms of the challenge, the two are to play 25,000 hands. In addition to any losses in the match, Galfond stands to lose another €200,000 to ‘VeniVidi1993’ as part of a side bet at 2:1 odds. Galfond’s decision to suspend the challenge created quite a Twitter storm, and Luke Schwartz was at the center of it.

However, after loads of introspection and a thorough review of his hand history about which he spoke in a recent chat with poker vlogger Joey Ingram as well, Galfond is back to the grind. He even tweeted about how he had reviewed some of the €40K-plus pots he had played during the challenge.

He tweeted on March 4 that he would be resuming the challenge.

And what a comeback it was!

The 16th session saw the players play 574 hands, and Galfond registered a profit of €183,481.38, making up for almost 20% of his losses.

With his successful session under his belt, Galfond may well be able to meet his stated goal of winning the challenge, and may even be ready to ship the side bet that he has going against ‘VeniVidi1993’.

Galfond also celebrated his victory on Twitter and said that he will be giving away three-month memberships to his training platform.

He seemed thrilled with the love and support he had received from his friends and fans.

Well, as they say, let the best player win!
