The World Poker Tour (WPT) has expanded its footprint in Asia by finally completing a successful inaugural stop in Taiwan after a few postponements due to the ongoing pandemic. With this series, WPT has introduced its WPTDeepstacks (WPTDS) brand in the Asia-Pacific. The 11-day long festival ran from December 11 to 21 at the Chinese Texas Hold ’em Poker Association (CTP Club) in Taipei, Taiwan.
The featured tourney at the 23-event series, the NT$15,000 buy-in WPTDeepstacks Main Event, brought in a record 526 entries (Day 1A – 154, Day 1B – 144, Day 1C – 197, Natural8 Online flight – 31) across the three starting flights played live and a Natural8 online flight to create an enticing NT$6,887,970 ($244,200) prize pool.
Huang Chyan Pu (cover image) was the last player standing in the Main Event and won NT$1,317,800 (~$46,756) and the customized WPTDeepstacks trophy. Chuan Lung Lai finished runner-up for NT$924,800 (~$32,812).
Zong Chi He was named the “Player of the Series,” and along with the trophy he took walked away with a WPT Passport worth $1,500, which can be used for buy-ins to any WPT or WPTDeepStacks event around the world.
One-hundred-and-twenty-two players made the cut for Day 2, with four players bagging two stacks each. Those four forwarded their best stacks and received a bonus of NT$30,000 (~$1,064). The top 64 players were assured a min-cash of NT$23,700 (~$841).
Lun Wei Hsia was the unlucky player to fall out on the money bubble. This opened the floodgates of eliminations, with Chung Chie Kuan (11th for $3,885), Justin Chu (12th for $3,885), Wu Yan Jie (14th for $3,090), Patrick Liang (21st for $2,193), Natural8 qualifier Chen Li Ming (30th for $1,352), Cheng Yi Lin (34th for $1,352), and Li Lun Hsiao (47th for $983) all hitting the rail before the final table.
Chen Yu Hung bubbled the FT in 10th place for $3,885, and all nine finalists were asked to bag the chips one last time before the final day’s play.
Po Wen Fang (3,455,000) bagged the overnight chip lead, with Cindy Man-Ni Chen (2,285,000) and Feng Wen Chen (2,050,000) a somewhat distant second and third in chips. The eventual champion, Huang Chyan Pu (1,400,000), started off smack in the middle of the pack with Chi Hung Ho (1,010,000) and Zong Chi He (1,005,000) sporting the shortest two stacks at the start of the final table.

It took almost ninety minutes of play for the first elimination of the day. Shao Heng Hsu was the first player to depart in ninth place, with Feng Wen Chen joining him on the rail in eighth place.
Within forty minutes, Po Ching Lin bounced out in seventh place. His ran into Po Wen Fang’s . Soon after that, short-stacked Chi Hung Ho fell out in sixth place.
The only female player on the final table, Cindy Man-Ni Chen’s deep run came to an end in fifth place, and she lost all her chips in two hands. The first blow saw her pocket queens getting cracked by Chuan Lung Lai’s Ace-King. She tried a comeback by shoving only to fall to Lai`s .
Next on the chopping block was Zong Chi He. His was outgunned by Chuan Lung Lai`s , resulting in the former`s departure in fourth place. The finish ensured He the WPTDS Player of the Series Trophy and the WPT Passport worth $1,500.
The three players exchanged chips for almost eighty minutes before Po Wen Fang ran his into Huang Chyan Pu’s . The board ran and just like that Fang hit the rail in third place.
The heads-up battle was short. Huang Chyan Pu started with a 3:1 chip lead over Chuan Lung Lai and didn’t take long to win the tourney. With the board open , Pu moved all-in with for a rivered straight, taking down Lai`s .
