Jake Ferro Named World Poker Tour Season XIX Player of the Year

32-year-old Jake Ferro (cover image) from Syracuse, New York, has seized the World Poker Tour (WPT) Season XIX Player of the Year title. Along with the prestigious title, Ferro received a $15,000 WPT Passport that can be used in any WPT event next season. He’ll also to entitled to VIP treatment throughout the upcoming WPT season, including complimentary accommodations and ground transportation at WPT Main Tour events.

Commenting on his POY win, Ferro said, “I’m thrilled to have won WPT Player of the Year for Season XIX and am definitely looking forward to playing more World Poker Tour events in 2022.”

He added, “It would have been a dream come true to have etched my name on the Mike Sexton WPT Champions Cup, but coming so close only makes me hungrier for the coming season.”

Congratulating Ferro, World Poker Tour CEO Adam Pliska said, “The WPT Player of the Year race came down to the wire, and Jake’s determination in the final event makes him a fantastic winner.”

Pliska added, “It was an exciting way to close out Season XIX and certainly raises the bar for what will be a historic 20th anniversary season.”

Ferro topped the Season XIX POY charts on the back of three impressive scores, winning $669,540 and accumulating 1,550 POY points collectively. He won a career-best $573,605 from his runner-up finish in the Seminole Rock ‘N’ Roll Poker Open Championship in November, picking up 1,200 POY points. In December, Ferro placed 14th at the WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic, which fetched him 300 points and an $80,245 cash prize. Last June, he finished 39th at WPT Tampa for $15,690.

According to his Hendon Mob profile, Ferro has $1,244,029 in live tournament earnings, and over half his earnings this year have been through WPT events.

Three players, Rok Gostisa, Chad Eveslage, and the reigning POY winner Brian Altman, were tied in the second position with 1,450 points each. Eventually, Gostica took the runner-up spot for winning $965,663, the most money amongst the three, and earned a $7,500 WPT Passport in the process. Eveslage walked away with WPT Passport worth $2,500 for finishing third in the POY standings.

The WPT DeepStacks North America Player of the Year award went to Albert Knafo for winning the WPTDeepStacks Venetian in July. Knafo won a $10,000 WPT Passport valid for use in any WPT event worldwide. Albert Shainiuk finished just 50 points behind Knafo and won a $3,500 WPT Passport, while Jason Young came third and bagged a $1,500 WPT Passport.

Season XX of the World Poker Tour begins later this month with the Lucky Hearts Poker Open at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and will feature an updated Player of the Year system to be unveiled in the coming weeks.
