The 2023 Triton Super High Roller Series Northern Cyprus is in full swing at the lavish Merit Hotel & Resort in Northern Cyprus. India’s Santhosh Suvarna set a high bar with his victory in Event #1: $25K NLH GG Super Millions Live, marking a dynamic beginning to the 15-event series. A second champion has emerged in Event #2: $20K 7-Max NLHE, attracting a formidable lineup of 138 competitors.
High stakes legend Jason Koon (cover image), known for his strategic mastery and unwavering focus, navigated this challenging field to clinch his career’s sixth Triton trophy, banking $663,000 and solidifying his status in the annals of Triton Poker history. As a longstanding record-holder at Triton Poker events, Koon furthered his lead last night, outpacing Mikita Badziakouski, who boasts four Triton Poker titles.
The 37-year-old American pro has boosted his live tournament winnings just shy of $44 Million, now sprinting to the seventh rank in the All-Time Money List.
Talking about his enormous success in Triton Poker tournaments, Koon said, “I have obviously run well, but I have a lot of experience. I think one of the biggest things is that I’ve been doing it for a very, very long time. I’ve been playing with the same player pool for a very long time. There are some new faces in this smaller event, but I’ve played with the same competition for years and years. You start to download good information about people and you can make good decisions.”
Day 2 saw fierce competition as only the final 28 players reconvened, with the promise of a payout awaiting 20 of them. The tension was palpable, with 21 players left in the game. In a dramatic turn of events, Nikolay Losev managed to secure a double-up off Viacheslav Buldygin (9th for $66,200), only to lose all his chips in a subsequent hand, resulting in a disappointing exit as the bubble boy.
Once the bubble burst, the tournament kicked into high gear, with the remaining 20 players guaranteed a piece of the prize pool. The pace of the game accelerated, and eliminations ensued in rapid succession. Among the casualties were some of the poker world’s brightest stars, including Hossein Ensan (13th for $48,400), Tom Dwan (14th for $44,200), Patrik Antonius (16th for $40,000), and Isaac Haxton (19th for $35,800), all of whom were swept from the table in this whirlwind of high-stakes action.

I just happened to get sick travelling and had to grind through them. But this Triton in particular, I’m in the best shape I’ve been in in multiple years. I feel great. So I know I’m going to play really well this trip.”
