The conclusion of the PGT Last Chance Series marked the end of the electrifying 2024 PokerGO Tour (PGT) season. At the pinnacle of the fiercely competitive leaderboard stood Jeremy Ausmus (cover image), whose extraordinary performances earned him the title of 2024 PGT Player of the Year. With an impressive 2,966 points, Ausmus not only claimed a $50,000 bonus prize but also gained a crucial edge heading into the coveted PGT $1 Million Championship, where he will start with the largest chip stack.

Ausmus’ exceptional consistency and skill throughout the year solidified his dominance, with a staggering 26 cashes and $5,991,016 in earnings. His closest rival, Daniel Negreanu, finished nearly 1,000 points behind with 2,054 points despite a stellar year that included breaking an 11-year WSOP bracelet drought. Other notable competitors like Seth Davies (1,855 points), Jesse Lonis (1,843 points), and Michael Rocco (1,835 points) were left trailing, underscoring Ausmus’ commanding lead. David Coleman, the 2024 GPI Player of the Year, completed the top 10 on the leaderboard with 1,637 points, highlighting the fierce competition Ausmus navigated to secure his title.

Tim Duckworth, Director of Live Events for PokerGO, praised Ausmus’ achievement: “Jeremy Ausmus showcased extraordinary consistency and skill throughout the 2024 PGT season, competing at the highest level against the toughest fields in poker. Winning PGT Player of the Year is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and incredible talent. On behalf of the PGT, we congratulate Jeremy on this well-deserved accomplishment.”

Joining the Legends

Jeremy Ausmus now joins the ranks of past PGT Player of the Year winners Isaac Haxton (2023) and Stephen Chidwick (2022), cementing his place in poker history. His accomplishment not only reflects his brilliance but also highlights the PGT’s mission of celebrating the best in tournament poker.

A Season of Unparalleled Excellence

Ausmus’ ascent to the top of the PGT leaderboard began with two cashes in the season-opening PGT Kickoff Series. This strong start laid the foundation for a spectacular year, which saw him record eight additional cashes in PGT events before taking center stage at the World Series of Poker (WSOP).

At the WSOP, Ausmus earned over $3 Million in PGT-qualifying tournaments and matched Phil Hellmuth‘s 2021 record of seven final table appearances in a single series. Although he fell short of winning a bracelet and the WSOP Player of the Year title—losing to Scott Seiver—Ausmus’ consistency demonstrated his unmatched determination.

The second half of 2024 was no less remarkable. In August, Ausmus shone at the Super High Roller Bowl Series in Cyprus, securing third place in the $250K Super High Roller Bowl and taking home $1,200,000. Upon returning to the U.S., he maintained his momentum with three cashes at the Poker Masters and four more at the PGT PLO Series II, including a victory in Event #7: $15,100 Pot-Limit Omaha, which added $288,000 to his winnings.

Ausmus’ stellar 2024 season culminated in a career-best $6.7 Million in total live poker tournament earnings, with a remarkable 90% of that sum coming from PGT events. According to The Hendon Mob, Ausmus now boasts over $23.34 Million in lifetime live tournament earnings, placing him third on Nevada’s All-Time Money List and affirming his status as one of poker’s all-time greats.

Negreanu’s Impressive Run for Second Place

While Jeremy Ausmus maintained an unassailable lead, Daniel Negreanu also had an exceptional year. After an 11-year hiatus, Negreanu captured a WSOP bracelet, reinforcing his legendary status in the poker world. His performances in PokerGO Tour events were equally impressive, with two wins and three additional top-three finishes in high-stakes tournaments. Despite his strong showing, Negreanu’s 2,054 points fell short of challenging Ausmus for the Player of the Year title.

A Milestone Achievement

Jeremy Ausmus’ 2024 PGT Player of the Year victory represents a season defined by strategic brilliance, unwavering determination, and unmatched results against the toughest competition. With nearly $6 Million in earnings and the $50,000 bonus prize in hand, Ausmus now turns his focus to the PGT $1 Million Championship, where he enters with a commanding chip advantage and momentum on his side.

As the poker community reflects on the thrilling 2024 season, one thing is sure: Jeremy Ausmus has set a new standard for excellence in the world of high-stakes tournament poker. All eyes are now on the upcoming Championship event, where Ausmus aims to cap off an already extraordinary year with another unforgettable performance.
