Two-time WSOP bracelet winner Jesse Martin (cover image) scored the biggest prize of his professional career – only it didn’t come in poker. Martin bested 180 entrants to win the DraftKings $10 Million Fantasy Football World Championship (FFWC) in Miami, banking a jackpot $2 million.

It’s not the first time a poker player has won the Daily Fantasy Sports (DFS) event. Back in January 2016, former high-stakes online cash game player Aaron Jones had won an incredible $5 million, one of the biggest prizes in DFS history.

This year, the American football-based competition had a prize pool guarantee of $10 million, and all participants received $15,000 just for showing up. The runner-up received $1 million, while third place was worth $750,000, fourth $500,000, and fifth place paid out $200,000.

Last month, Martin had won a 12-person qualifier with a $5,375 entry fee that earned him a ticket to the FFWC, valued at $55,556. In that event, he scored 106.22 points in a single-game format that was based on results from the Baltimore Ravens’ 37-20 victory over the New England Patriots. Martin said on Twitter that he actually got started for less than $600.

In the championship round at Miami, Martin had to contend with top DFS players, including fellow poker players Max Steinberg and Brandon Adams.

Martin relied on a couple of stud running backs to carry his team. The New York Giants Saquon Barkley scored 33.3 points, while Christian McCaffrey of the Carolina Panthers added 37.5. He also drafted wide receiver Chris Conley and tight end Tyler Higbee, who were 25.6 percent and 34 percent owned, respectively. He also grabbed a couple of Philadelphia Eagles players Greg Ward and Boston Scott. The main differentiator in Martin’s team was the Kansas City Chiefs stars Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill as they were selected by less than 10 percent of all lineups. Playing at home in snowy weather, Kansas City was still able to put together a robust aerial attack, with Mahomes putting up 26.7 points and Hill contributing 23.8.

The high-stakes mixed games pro Martin’s poker scorecard boasts of $3.258 million in live poker tournaments. His most significant live cash is a third-place finish in 2014 in the $50,000 Poker Players Championship for $594,570

The Massachusetts native cashed eight times at the 2019 WSOP, and his best performance was a tenth place finish in the $10,000 seven-card stud hi-lo championship for $29,000. He has also won two WSOP bracelets – his first bracelet in 2013, in the $10,000 no-limit 2-7 event. His second bracelet came four years later in the $2,500 mixed triple draw event.
