Jordan Cristos Wins WPT Legends of Poker Main Event for $613,355

The 2013 World Poker Tour Legends of Poker has come to a close with the crowning of the main event champion. The long schedule of WPT Legends of Poker started on 28th July and included a variety of events including a five-day long main event. After a grueling five days of poker, one man who stood out among the 716 runners to claim the top prize of $613,355 and the bragging rights of the prestigious title was Jordan Cristos (cover image).

The Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, California played host to the tournament this year where the main event had three entry flights (Day 1A, Day1B, Day1C) and the action continued for four more days after that. Day 5 marked the victory for Cristos where he defeated Dan Heimiller in the heads-up battle.

It was a tough final table that included the likes of Phil Laak (who final tabled this event in 2003) and Dan Heimiller. The other four contenders to fill up the six-handed final table included Cristos, Alex Masek, Ryan Goindoo and John Gordon.

Cristos entered the final table middle of the pack with Goindoo and Laak leading the way. Heimiller had the shortest stack but managed to survive until the end. The first casualty occurred after nearly 60 hands and four hours of play when Gordon moved all in to be called by Goindoo and got eliminated in sixth place for $85,080.

The next man to leave the final table was Phil Laak, who collected some chips a few hands earlier by winning a big pot against Gordon but his luck ran out and he was railed in fifth place when Cristos’s set of queens held high against his .

By this time, Cristos and Goindoon were the chip leaders with a substantial chip advantage over the other two contenders, Masek and Heimiller.

The next elimination gave Goindoon a massive chip lead where he railed Masek in fourth place. In the pre flop action Masek moved all in holding and Goindoon called with his . The flop opened giving Masek a ray of hope, but it was soon shattered when Goindoon paired his ace on the turn with , and held up through the river to send Masek back to the rail.

The three-way play was now underway and Heimiller who was the shortest stack till now managed a double up and took the chip lead, making Goindoon short on chips. Soon after Goindoon moved all in with pocket fives and was called by Heimiller who held . The board ran and Goindoon was eliminated in third place. The heads-up began with Heimiller holding a slight chip lead against Cristos, but it got reversed with Cristos holding the lead in the next 90 minutes of the game.

The final hand came when Heimiller moved all in with and Cristos called with . The board ran , giving Cristos a winning pair of nines and the coveted championship trophy.

Vanessa Rousso Wins WPT Ladies Night Invitational

Another tournament to conclude at this season of the World Poker Tour was the World Poker Tour Foundation Ladies Night Invitational. The event kick started yesterday at 4p.m PT at the Bicycle Casino in Los Angeles, California and the six ladies who participated in the event included Jessica Dawley, WPT Anchor Kimberly Lansing, Lily Kiletto, Liz Lieu, LIPS Qualifier Sunny Chen, and Vanessa Rousso.

The one who took down the event to win a $25,000 seat in the WPT championship was Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Rousso. The event was also for a charitable cause as a portion of the prizepool was donated to a charity of the players` choice. In this case, after the victory, 25% of the prizepool was donated in Rousso’s name to the National Council for Research on Women (NCRW) charity.
