The Doupai Cup Main Event that featured a hefty HK$3 million guarantee was recently held at the Macau Billionaire Poker room. The event went on to become a smashing success, drawing a solid field of 265 entries that generated a HK$4,164,210 prize pool with the top 27 places making it in the money.

The event crowned its champion yesterday with India`s Kalyan Chakravarthy (cover image) narrowly missing the title with a runner-up finish following a heads-up deal with eventual champion Chen Guangcheng.

Chakravarthy was always one of the top 5 stacks both on Day 1 and 2, and went on to take an overwhelming lead once the field slimmed down to a final table. The heads-up finale too saw him start off with a dominating chip lead but unfortunately for Chakravarthy, he couldn’t convert his lead into a victory and eventually walked away with a career-best HK$790,000 (~₹64,90,506) for his epic run. Guangcheng pocketed around HK$850,000 for his first-place finish.

Along with Chakravarthy, Alok Birewar (12th place), Rahul Melwani (15th place), and Sumit Sapra (16th place) were the other Indian players who made a deep run in the event.

Final Table Recap

Chakravarthy started the final table ahead of eight other opponents with 15 million in chips. The first major update from him came when he took down a massive pot 3-way all in pot. His pocket king’s held up against both the pocket queens and Ace King of his rivals to fetch him a huge pot.

Chakravarthy went on to bust the fourth-place finisher too when his pocket ten’s beat his rival’s Ace King.

Soon, it was heads-up for the title between Chakravarthy and the eventual champion Chen Guangcheng. The duo agreed to a deal and the heads-up play resumed for the additional HK$165,000 and the trophy.

By the end, Guangcheng emerged victorious and Chakravarthy’s dream run ended at second place that saw him bank HK$790,000 (~₹64,90,506).

PokerGuru reached out to Chakravarthy after the event and the elated pro said, “It feels quite good to get good score and hope my run continues. I wanted to make a similar score and yea I am happy with this finish. I would particularly thank Sumit Sapra who was railing me on day 3 at the final table throughout and also helped me in making the deal. So that was a great support. I was in top 5 chips right from day 1 and day 2 and finally the final table chip leader. So definitely I ran good and fortunately I never had to fight with any big stacks. So, it went smoothly till we were down to the last 3 tables. At that point, I got involved in a hand where a 5-bet happened against none other than the guy who eventually won the event. So that time itself I felt this guy can be a potential threat for me and yea, as I expected, we ended up heads up against each other and he took it down. One crucial hand for me on the final table was the 3 way all in i.e. ace king vs pocket king’s vs pocket queens when I took it with my kings. (Chuckles) I guess all the good vibes from Indian players helped me out 😊.

Lastly, I would like to say that stay fit and stay healthy if you want to make foreign trips as food and sleep are major issues when you run deep and you need to have the stamina. Also, a big thanks to all the IPPA members and the Indians in Macau who were railing and rooting for me“.
